GENERAL SURGERY/CARDIAC/TELEMETRY UNIT 8E Salary is commensurate with years' experience Functions as a Telemetry Monitor Technician. Observes and interprets cardiac activity as seen on the EKG monitor to ensure prompt discovery of abnormal rhythms. Makes notification to the appropriate staff member so that proper intervention can be done. Documents and maintains patients\' records according to the required guidelines. Assists in general unit functions and indirect patient care. Assists in maintaining a clean, safe, orderly environment for patients, visitors and staff. Functions as a team member and facilitates cohesiveness and quality patient care. Typical Duties

Functions as a Telemetry Monitor Technician (MT) in the assigned area of duty. Observes, interprets and documents EKG rhythm strip findings. Observes EKG rhythm strips for changes in rhythm, rate or wave configuration. Documents EKG rhythm strips in chart every four (4) hours (7:00am, 11:00am, 3:00pm, etc.) and at the time of EKG rhythm and/or rate or wave configuration. Ensures all EKG rhythm strip documentation includes measurement of PR interval, QRS complex, ST segment, rhythm interpretation, signature, date, time and patient\'s name. Promptly communicates all abnormal rhythm strip findings to the assigned RN and/or Charge Nurse. Observes, interprets and gathers information obtained from the telemetry monitoring system: Must be able to recognize life threatening arrhythmias and promptly notifies RN/Charge Nurses. Maintains functionality of telemetry system: Reviews and tests alarm systems every shift; promptly notifies supervisor of equipment problems; promotes a clean/dust free environment; communicates problems to the appropriate department. Maintains and stores adequate inventory of supplies related to telemetry monitoring. Orients appropriate personnel to the operation of telemetry monitoring equipment. Participates in Quality Assessment and Improvement activities at the direction of the Nurse Manager/designee. Collects necessary data to complete telemetry statistics. Maintains daily log of telemetry activity. Performs general unit functions under the supervision of the Nurse Manager/Charge Nurse: Answers telephone/intercom system; directs visitors/patients appropriately from nursing station. Gives a thorough hand-off report to oncoming shift. Follows policies, protocols and guidelines, meets qualifications and competencies. Performs other duties as assigned. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

High School Diploma or GED, required. (Must provide proof at time of interview) Registered/Active Certification as a Cardiographic Technician or EKG Technician, required. (Must provide proof at time of interview) One (1) year of experience as a Cardiographic Technician or EKG Technician, required. Current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification obtained through the American Heart Association, required. (Must provide proof at time of interview) Must successfully pass an EKG interpretation test, required. Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Other Characteristics

Knowledge of medical equipment, cardiac monitors, and EKG machines. Utilizes interpersonal skills to maximize customer service in a manner that supports excellence in customer service and safe patient care. Able to relate and communicate positively, effectively and professionally with others. Able to communicate effectively in person, in writing and on the telephone. Emergency response skills. Organizational skills. Be assertive and consistent in following policies, work calmly and respond and courteously when under pressure; accept direction. Manage multiple assignments effectively, organize and prioritize workload, work well under pressure, collaborate with RN to problem solve, recall information with accuracy, pay close attention to detail and function within scope of procedure. Must be flexible and adaptable in performing duties. This position occasionally requires various types of physical exertion including but not limited to lifting, pushing, pulling, twist/turn, climbing, crawling, reach above shoulder, reach outward, handling/fingering, prolonged standing, walking, sitting, operating departmental equipment and/or other devices as well as exerting medium force. Physical and Environmental Demands

This position functions in a healthcare environment.
