Summary

Dental assistant support in general and specialty dentistry, integral member, assists dentist, independent clinical and clerical functions.

Responsibilities

  • Customer Service: courtesy, respect, positive attitude, assist patients, service recovery.
  • Chair Side Assisting: set up operatory, clean unit, pass instruments, maintain operative field, prepare medicaments, assist four‑handed dentistry.
  • Dental Imaging: expose standard and specialty images, adjust settings, ensure diagnostic quality.
  • Infection Control & Sterilization: proper infection control, disinfect appliances.
  • Clerical Functions: fill gaps due to cancellations, initiate computerized progress notes.
  • Information Management: maintain patient confidentiality per HIPAA, follow computer security regulations.
  • Patient Safety: adjust care for patient age/abilities, provide instructions.
  • Dental Laboratory Functions: pour impressions, prepare study models, trim denture trays.
  • Direct Patient Care: monitor vital signs BP, pulse, pulse oximetry during treatment and recovery.

Work Schedule

7:30 AM – 4:00 PM. Not telework.

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizen.
  • Selected applicants subject to drug screening and background investigation.
  • Selective Service Registration required for males born after 12/31/1959.
  • Proficient in written and spoken English.
  • May be required to serve a trial period.
  • Acceptable ID requirements per I‑9; driver’s licenses must be REAL ID compliant as of July 7, 2025.
  • Seasonal influenza vaccination required.
  • Complete application as per Required Documents.

Qualifications

  • United States Citizenship.
  • English proficiency.
  • Experience: Six months experience or education combination; Six months experience demonstrating work ability.
  • Education: 1‑year accredited dental assistant program (CODA) or equivalent combination.
  • Certification: Radiologic competence per 42 CFR Part 75; must have completed appropriate radiology training and be certified as a radiographer.
  • Optional certifications: Basic life support, DANB, ADA, dentist adjunct.

Certification of Radiologic Competence

  1. Dental Radiation Health and Safety Examination (Dental Assisting National Board) OR
  2. Principles and Practice of Dental Radiology and Radiographic Safety courses and exams (Assistant Under Secretary for Health) OR
  3. State board approved program or DoD‑approved program.

Preferred Experience

  • 3‑5 years dental assistant experience.
  • Advanced knowledge of instruments, materials, procedures.
  • Ability to monitor vital signs.
  • Independent patient education, referral.
  • Image capture quality.
  • Electronic dental records data entry.

Physical Requirements

Primarily standing, walking, bending, carrying light items, use of fingers/hands. Hearing (aid permitted).
