Perform waived, moderate, or highly complex tests authorized by CLIA, with responsibilities listed under CFR 493.1425, 493.1495, and 493.1463, and maintain skill level commensurate with education, training, and experience. Adhere to laboratory procedures for collection, processing, analysis, and reporting of patient test results. Follow established quality control policies and procedures; document all corrective actions when test systems deviate from performance specifications. Identify problems that may adversely affect test performance and either correct the problem or notify the supervisor, Director, or Medical Director. Perform a wide variety of laboratory procedures requiring independent judgment using manual and automated methods across hematology, blood bank, chemistry, urinalysis, coagulation, microbiology, immunology, and other disciplines as introduced into the laboratory. Perform and document maintenance on instruments and equipment as appropriate (daily, weekly, monthly, or as needed). Review the accuracy of patient results prior to release or reporting. Recognize age-specific differences in expected results from newborns to geriatrics. Ensure proficiency testing samples are tested in the same manner as patient samples and avoid collaboration with other laboratories prior to reporting results to appropriate agencies. May be required to perform venipuncture or capillary puncture on various age groups from newborn to geriatrics. Assist in development and maintenance of laboratory policies and procedures. Adhere to all department and hospital safety, infection control, emergency preparedness, and human resources policies and procedures. In the absence of a supervisor, may be identified as Lead Tech with responsibility for the section or department during the shift. May be assigned responsibilities related to LIS and/or POC. Other tasks or responsibilities may be assigned by the department manager/director. Qualifications
ASCP certification, or equivalent preferred. Minimum two years of hospital laboratory work experience required. Bachelor’s Degree in chemical, physical, biological health science or Medical Laboratory Technology from an accredited institution, or other educational requirements stated in CLIA (42 CFR 493.1423). Current and valid state license if the laboratory is located in a state where required. The exact starting compensation will be offered at hire and based on factors including skillset, years of applicable experience, education, credentials, and licensure.
