Associate Director of Development – The Nature Conservancy (Michigan)

Responsible for building a portfolio of 100–125 qualified donors and developing relationships with major gift prospects, including donors with the capacity to give over $100,000 once the portfolio is developed. The Associate Director will conduct 125 visits and 225–375 major gift moves annually, with an annual fundraising goal of $500,000 or more and a goal for bequest notifications. The role requires the ability to ask for and close gifts of $25,000 or more, manage and track multiple prospects and donors, and work cross‑functionally with the development team, field staff, and global partners. The Associate Director will travel frequently, spend about 20% of time out‑door meeting donors around the state, and expect to work long, flexible hours as needed.

What You’ll Bring

Bachelor’s degree and 5 years related experience or an equivalent combination.

Experience building and maintaining long‑term relationships with fundraising constituents.

Experience asking for and closing gifts of $25,000 or more.

Experience managing and tracking multiple prospects and donors.

Experience working with cross‑functional teams.

Experience, coursework, or other training in fundraising principles and practices.

Valid driver’s license

required. Employees must complete the Vehicle Use Agreement and comply with TNC’s Auto Safety Program. Employees may not drive Conservancy‑owned or leased vehicles, rental cars, or personal vehicles on behalf of the Conservancy if considered “high risk drivers.”

Salary Information The starting pay range for a candidate selected for this position is generally within the range of $79,040 – $83,980 for U.S. candidates. The actual pay will depend on location, qualifications, specific skills, and experience.
