The Nature Conservancy is seeking a

WY Associate Director of Development I

to work in the Wyoming region. This role is responsible for building and cultivating a portfolio of major donors and advancing multi-year fundraising strategies for corporate, foundation, and individual prospects.

About the Role The Associate Director of Development I works closely with the development team to implement effective multi-year strategies and plans for gift prospects, including corporate, foundation, and individual donors. The position is responsible for building a portfolio of qualified donors, developing relationships, and ensuring that donors are recognized and engaged.

Responsibilities and Scope

Act independently and in supervisor’s stead as needed, exercising independent judgment to identify and solve problems.

Make decisions that may have program-wide impact and may bind the organization financially or legally.

Handle confidential information with sensitivity.

Ensure compliance with TNC policies and external requirements.

Manage fundraising budgets and meet financial objectives.

Coordinate the work of peers and set project deadlines.

Participate in complex negotiations as required.

Communicate the mission of TNC persuasively to diverse audiences.

Document progress toward goals consistently, meeting deadlines and commitments to colleagues, donors, and prospects.

Manage a portfolio of 75–125 donors, including donors with the capacity to give over $100,000 in a single gift or pledge, with annual fundraising targets of $5,000,000 within 24–36 months and $2,000,000 raised in year one of the pre‑qualified portfolio.

Be located within a 45‑minute drive of Jackson, Wyoming.

Travel frequently and work long and flexible hours as needed.

Work in an environment with infrequent exposure to disagreeable elements and minimal physical exertion.

We’re Looking For You Fundraising or business development experience, strong relationship building skills, and a commitment to conservation. The ideal candidate will have experience asking for and closing gifts of $1,000,000 or more and a proven track record in managing multiple prospects.

What You’ll Bring

Bachelor’s degree and at least 5 years of related experience or an equivalent combination.

Experience building and maintaining long‑term relationships with fundraising constituents.

Experience asking for and closing gifts of $1,000,000 or more.

Experience managing and tracking multiple prospects and donors.

Experience working with cross‑functional teams.

Fundraising principles and practices coursework or training.

Desired Qualifications

Multi‑lingual skills and cross‑cultural experience.

Ability to assess interests, capacity, and potential of donors and align them with TNC’s work.

Ability to educate prospective and existing donors about giving vehicles.

Experience implementing individualized cultivation and solicitation plans.

Knowledge of trends in capital campaigns, major gifts, and planned giving.

Diploma in building strong donor relationships and motivating volunteers.

Proven ability to negotiate high‑profile or sensitive agreements.

Basic knowledge of charitable gift planning.

Salary Information The starting pay range for this position is $89,000–$110,000, applicable to candidates residing in the USA. Compensation will depend on location, qualifications, specific skills, and experience.
