Overview
Holy Family Bilingual Catholic Parish and School is looking for an experienced Custodian/Maintenance person. Position: Facilities Maintenance/Custodian for Church & Parochial School. Location: Holy Family Parish and Parochial School. Schedule: Full Time, Monday–Friday. Date posted: June 3, 2025. Responsibilities
Oversees the ongoing maintenance of buildings and grounds for the Parish and School. Represents the parish when dealing with outside contractors in major maintenance, construction and renovation projects. Identifies outside contractors, vendors and service providers and negotiates contracts. Performs preventive maintenance to minimize plumbing, mechanical, electrical, and heating system failures. Diagnoses problems and makes needed repairs to buildings. Checks boilers for proper operation and makes adjustments as appropriate. Schedules annual Backflow, Boiler and fire extinguisher inspections. Establishes work priorities and provides training and work direction to volunteers and/or janitorial firm. Maintains an inventory of cleaning supplies and equipment and reorders as appropriate. Empties garbage cans throughout the facility and removes litter from the grounds on a daily basis or as needed. Maintains grounds including mowing, watering, and pruning; coordinates groundkeeper volunteers. Ensures cleaning crew has all supplies needed; secures buildings when not in use; acts as Facilities Key keeper. Capable of handling the physical demands of the job (e.g., lifting up to 50 lbs, climbing ladders, bending, and working from floor level). Attends archdiocesan safety certification training program. Custodial Duties:
Assist with cleaning tasks such as sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, trash removal, and restroom maintenance; set up and tear down for events, meetings, services, and classroom activities. Groundskeeping:
Coordinate volunteers to maintain exterior areas including lawns, gardens, sidewalks, parking lots, and playgrounds; perform seasonal tasks such as snow removal and minor landscaping. Safety & Compliance:
Monitor and address safety hazards and code violations; serve as a member of the Parish/School Safety Committee; ensure maintenance practices comply with health and safety regulations. Inventory & Supplies:
Maintain inventory of tools, cleaning supplies, and repair materials; coordinate with vendors for service calls or larger repair projects as needed. Collaboration & Communication:
Work closely with church staff, school faculty, and volunteers; respond promptly to maintenance requests and emergencies. Secondary Functions:
Assist school personnel; set up for special events (chairs, tables, and other event requirements); perform other duties as assigned; flexible schedule and on-call support, including occasional nights and weekends; opening/closing buildings and monitoring facility security; responding to urgent maintenance needs as they arise. Qualifications
Maintenance experience Ability to perform physical labor (lifting up to 50 lbs, climbing ladders, etc.) In-depth knowledge of building maintenance, including plumbing, electrical and general repairs Must pass background check and comply with Safe Environment policies Ability to work independently and take initiative Ability to interact positively with staff, students and parishioners Respectful and supportive of the Catholic mission and values Salary & Benefits
Salary range is $25-$30/hour depending on experience, skills and years of service in similar positions. Any offered salary is determined based on internal equity, internal salary ranges, market data, applicant’s skills and prior relevant experience, degrees, and certifications.
