Fire Protection Engineer II at HFA.
What You’ll Do Lead or support commercial, industrial, and retail projects from concept through construction.
Independently manage multiple projects and client types with minimal supervision.
Lead small client teams or oversee portions of large‑scale projects.
Design and draft fire suppression, alarm, and life safety systems.
Apply NFPA, IBC, and IFC codes to ensure full compliance and system performance.
Perform hydraulic calculations, equipment selection, and specification writing.
Collaborate directly with clients, internal engineers, and project teams.
Train and mentor junior staff on company standards, software, and design best practices.
Provide quality‑control reviews and assist with project budgets and documentation.
In This Role Will have opportunities to serve as Engineer of Record on select projects and take increasing ownership of client relationships and design quality.
What You’ll Bring
BS in Mechanical or Fire Protection Engineering (or equivalent experience)
3+ years of experience designing fire protection or alarm systems
Professional Engineer (PE) license required
Proficiency in AutoSPRINK, Revit, and related design software
Strong understanding of NFPA, ICC, IBC, and IFC codes
Excellent communication skills and a collaborative, team‑oriented mindset
Ability to independently solve complex design challenges and deliver detailed construction documents

Job Responsibilities

Lead a small client team or medium‑to‑large scale projects, or portions of a large project using experience in fire suppression and alarm systems, controls, and national standards.
Independently design and draft construction documents for most projects.
Apply recognized national standards for most project types with minimal oversight.
Maintain proficient knowledge of NFPA/ICC codes and their impact on design.
