Overview
Autism Engagement Specialist – Health Program Specialist II (HPS II) position with the California Department of Developmental Services. This role coordinates statewide meetings, focus groups, workshops, and workgroups related to Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and conducts outreach and awareness activities related to ASD, developmental disabilities, and services. The HPS II serves as a skilled technical program consultant and provides policy and consultative advice on complex and sensitive policy matters for ASD, public health, and accessibility. The HPS II collaborates with Department offices, other state departments, universities, regional centers, and community-based organizations to meet Department objectives.
Responsibilities
Coordinate statewide meetings, focus groups, workshops, and workgroups related to ASD and related outreach activities. Provide policy and consultative advice on complex and sensitive policy matters related to ASD, public health, and accessibility. Engage diverse communities to represent the needs of individuals with ASD and developmental disabilities. Work collaboratively with other Department offices, state departments, universities, regional centers, and community-based organizations to advance Department objectives.
Working Conditions
This is a hybrid, in-office/telework position and may be subject to change. Incumbent may be required to report to the office or any designated location at any time. Telework agreements can be modified or canceled at any time. Incumbent must live and work in California. All commute expenses are the responsibility of the selected candidate. The Department does not sponsor employment visas for this position.

Minimum Qualifications / Desirable Qualifications
Desirable qualifications include knowledge of supports and accommodations related to ASD and other disabilities; understanding of the Lanterman Act and the developmental disabilities service delivery system; proficiency with computer software (Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Adobe) and virtual meeting/training tools. Ability to work within an interdisciplinary team, collaborate with divisions, regional centers, and professionals; strong communication and confidential information handling; ability to establish priorities and engage diverse audiences.
