Job Description And Duties The Senior Psychologist works along the Senior Psychologist Supervisor to provide clinical leadership for the Clinical Services Branch, which is a multidisciplinary professional team within the Office of Statewide Clinical Services (OSCS). The Senior Psychologist provides a clinical perspective for community-based services and specialists to influence and guide state services and supports, including working with regional centers (RC) and state operated facilities on best practices and providing technical assistance, clinical expertise and consultation. This position serves as a department-wide expert and psychology consultant for services supporting individuals with developmental disabilities.

Working Conditions Under Government Code 14200, this position is a hybrid, in-office/telework position, and may be subject to change. Incumbent can be required to report to the office, or any designated location at any time. Telework agreements can be modified and/or cancelled at any time. Incumbent must live and work in California. All commute expenses to the reporting location will be the responsibility of the selected candidate.

This position requires lawful authorization to work in the United States. The Department does not sponsor employment visas for this position.

Effective July 1, 2025, State employees are subject to a salary reduction of three percent in exchange for five hours per month of the Personal Leave.

Department Information The California Department of Developmental Services (DDS) is the agency through which the State of California provides services and supports to individuals with developmental disabilities. These disabilities include intellectual disability, cerebral palsy, epilepsy, autism and related conditions. Services are provided through state-operated developmental centers and community facilities, and contracts with 21 nonprofit regional centers. The regional centers serve as a local resource to help find and access the services and supports available to individuals with developmental disabilities and their families.

Possession of a valid license as a Psychologist issued by the California Board of Psychology and possession of an earned Doctorate Degree in Psychology from an educational institution meeting the criteria of Section 2914 of the Medical Board of California's Business and Professions Code.

Knowledge of : Principles, techniques, and trends in psychology with particular reference to social aspects of mental and developmental disabilities; program evaluation; institutional and social process; group dynamics; functions of psychologists in various mental health services; current trends in the field of mental health; professional training; and community organization and allied professional services. Ways in which individuals are assessed and identified for Early Start and Lanterman services. Culturally competent provision of service to a diverse population of persons served. Awareness of clinical issues facing individuals with neurodevelopmental disorders across the lifespan.

Ability to : Provide clinical leadership to a multidisciplinary team and professional consultation. Teach and participate in professional training. Work independently but in close cooperation with team members. Demonstrate critical thinking skills and clinical problem-solving capability. Recognize situations requiring the creative application of technical skills; develop and evaluate creative approaches to the assessment, treatment, and rehabilitation of mental and developmental disabilities, and to the development and direction of a psychology program. Plan, organize, and conduct research, data analysis and program evaluation. Analyze situations accurately and take effective action and communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
