Project Control Specialist Basic Function
Responsible for developing, monitoring, and maintaining project schedules and cost databases for the Planning, Engineering Design, and Construction Services of Infrastructure Improvement (II) Department. Maintains Primavera databases and download EPS schedule updates monthly. Collaborates with Project Managers and other METRO staff to update program-level schedules and review contractors’ schedule submissions. Assist Project Controls with cost estimating, annual budgeting, and cost tracking for II Department. Performs schedule simulations to support management-decision making for various Capital Projects. Performs duties in a safe, efficient manner and in compliance with applicable rules and safety procedures. Responsibilities and Specific Duties
Assist Infrastructure Improvement (II) Department’s capital project budget development, earned value tracking, cashflow forecast, cost estimating, and report preparation. Assist in Department Project Status Review (held every alternate month) Assist Fiscal Year Budget development, Capital Improvement Program (CIP) sheet code checking, event logging, and QC final numbers. Assist Scheduling and Estimating staff with cost analysis, change order estimates and other support services. Review contractor baseline schedules and progress updates. Develop cost-loaded schedules to integrate project budget with schedule performance. Support preparation and update all program and project capital cost estimates by providing engineering and construction cost estimate data and review of estimates provided by A/E firms. Assist preparation of FTA monthly and quarterly schedule and cost forecast reports. Track monthly actual cost data from SAP, and log procurement activities pertaining to the projects of II department. Prepare monthly project cost tracking reports. Update project schedule dates and actual cost data in Primavera (P6) for all active Infrastructure Improvement projects. Assist in new schedule development, including establishing WBS, detailed activities, activity logic and cost loading. Log new unit cost records into cost databases. Assist quantity take-off, unit cost validation for construction estimates. Maintains contact with vendors, firms, contractors and other agencies for current, progressive cost estimating data that may be applied at METRO. This position is necessary to provide project control services for the II department as well as other departments of METRO. Provides excellent customer service to METRO internal and external customers. Applies SMS (Safety Management System) methods and principles in daily routine and supports all aspects of the agency’s Public Transportation Agency Safety Plan (PTASP). Promotes safety awareness and follows safety procedures to reduce or eliminate accidents. Performs other job-related duties as assigned. Education Requirement
Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, Construction Management, or related field required. Years & Experience Required
0 to 2 years’ experience in data analysis, scheduling/estimating. Experience in an engineering project management or finance work environment desired. Knowledge & Skills Required
Knowledge of Construction management, Primavera P6, and a high level of proficiency in Microsoft Excel. Strong communication, problem solving, and teamwork skills. Additional Information
