Inspections in elevator construction regarding electrical and mechanical installations. Works under general supervision, independently developing work methods and sequences. Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

Requires four (4) years technical work in the elevator industry or closely related experience. Special Certifications and Licenses

Must be certified as an ANSI/ASME Qualified Elevator Inspector (QEI). Must possess and maintain a valid Florida Class E Driver's License at time of appointment, and must obtain and maintain the authority to drive on County business. Preferences

Associate's Degree in Mechanical Engineering and/or related field Two (2) years of experience witnessing tests specified in ASME A17.1 CSA B44 and ASME A17.1 Florida Association of Code Enforcement Officers (FACE) Fundamentals in Code Enforcement certification Fire Safety Inspector Ability to speak/read/write multiple languages other than English (Spanish/Portuguese/Creole, etc.). Responsibilities

The functions below represent the majority of the time spent working in this class. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the job as necessary. Perform inspections in elevator construction regarding electrical and mechanical installations. Work under general supervision, independently developing work methods and sequences. Conduct inspections for compliance with codes and regulations governing the construction, alteration, repair and continued operation of new and existing elevators, escalators and lifts. Observe during stages in construction for possible defects and violations that must be corrected. Review code standards and departmental regulations; review and check blueprints, plans, and sketches associated with a permit in relation to the actual construction, alteration, or repair and recommend changes and improvements when needed. Confer with contractors, engineers, property owners, and other interested parties; explain and interpret elevator codes and regulations. Prepare and maintain necessary records and reports; attend meetings and conferences concerned with elevating device code enforcement. Enforce provisions of the Florida Statute 399 and related regulations. Perform related work as assigned. Physical Demands

Physical demands refer to the requirements for physical exertion and coordination of limb and body movement. Performs light to medium work that involves walking or standing virtually all of the time and also involves exerting between 20 and 50 pounds of force on a regular and recurring basis or considerable skill, adeptness and speed in the use of the fingers, hands or limbs in tasks involving close tolerances or limits of accuracy. Unavoidable hazards refer to the job conditions that may lead to injury or health hazards even though precautions have been taken. Involves routine and frequent exposure to electrical shocks; heights. Competencies
