Applications Engineer – Controls (Pre-Sales, Parcel Conveyor Systems)
We are seeking a detail-oriented and technically skilled Applications Engineer to support pre-sales activities for electrical controls systems in the parcel conveyor and material handling industry. This role is critical in defining project scopes, preparing accurate cost estimates, and supporting the sales team with technical documentation and layouts. The ideal candidate will have experience in AutoCAD, electrical controls design, and subcontractor coordination.
Key Responsibilities
Collaborate with sales and engineering teams to define the scope of work for electrical controls systems in parcel conveyor projects.
Develop and prepare Requests for Quotation (RFQs) for electrical installation subcontractors, ensuring clarity and completeness of scope.
Create controls device layouts using AutoCAD, including panel locations, field device placements, and cable routing concepts.
Compile device lists and quantities for estimating and procurement purposes.
Perform controls take-offs and assist in developing accurate cost estimates for proposals.
Review customer specifications and RFPs to ensure compliance and alignment with proposed solutions.
Interface with vendors and subcontractors to obtain pricing and technical information.
Support the sales team with technical documentation, drawings, and presentations.
Maintain and enhance internal pricing tools and templates.
Participate in design reviews and handoff meetings with project execution teams.
Qualifications
Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Industrial Automation, or related field.
3+ years of experience in controls engineering, applications engineering, or pre-sales support in the material handling or automation industry.
Proficiency in AutoCAD for electrical and layout drawings.
Strong understanding of industrial control components (PLCs, sensors, VFDs, HMIs, etc.).
Experience preparing RFQs and evaluating subcontractor bids.
Excellent communication and organizational skills.
Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
Familiarity with parcel conveyor systems is highly preferred.
