Job Summary The MEP Estimator is responsible for managing assigned construction estimating projects, focusing on Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing trades. The role involves documenting and analyzing the complete scope of work for cost and feasibility, organizing bid solicitations, conducting quantitative analysis, reviewing schedules, costing, risk, and interpreting project specifications and contract language. The estimator works independently with considerable decision-making authority and collaborates closely with internal teams and external stakeholders including architects, engineers, owners, subcontractors, and suppliers.

Location This position is based at the Hagerman Fort Wayne office. It is not a remote position.

Key Responsibilities

Review and analyze project plans, specifications, and documents to understand the scope of work for MEP systems; conduct material take-offs and quantify necessary resources.

Analyze costs related to labor, equipment, subcontractors, and overhead; prepare detailed estimates using estimating software and organize project estimating files.

Collaborate with project managers, engineers, subcontractors, architects, owners, vendors, and other stakeholders to ensure estimates meet project requirements and schedules; prepare and present estimates, proposals, and bid documents.

Participate in pre-bid meetings, site visits, negotiations, and bid strategy sessions; review scopes of work with subcontractors and suppliers before and after bidding.

Monitor and update estimates throughout the project, track changes, revise estimates as needed, and provide cost analysis reports; attend turnover and close-out meetings to gather data and evaluate vendor performance.

Assess constructability and logistics; build schedules based on project durations and sequences to support bid strategies.

Organize and manage bid day activities, coordinate bid runners, review bid forms, set up software, and communicate with the bid team.

Identify project-specific permit fees, bonding, insurance requirements, temporary facilities, and overhead costs; create bid advertisements and support publishing of XBE requirements.

Prepare job costing reports comparing actual versus budgeted quantities and labor; compile scope documentation for purchase orders and subcontract development.

Build and maintain strong relationships with subcontractors and suppliers to support competitive bidding.

Qualifications

Minimum 5+ years of experience in large-scale vertical commercial construction estimating. A BA/BS/AS or other accredited degree may substitute for up to 4 years of experience. Effective verbal, written, and presentation skills are required. Experience with preconstruction estimating is preferred.
