Electrical Engineer III

Position Overview The Electrical Engineer III position is responsible for the development, integration, and testing of electrical systems to execute the intended goals of specific spaceflight projects and Internal Research And Development (IRAD) projects. Responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to, serving as the Electrical Engineering functional team representative for specific projects throughout the lifecycle process from concept ideation through return from flight and ensuring that assigned projects adhere to the Space Tango architecture, processes, and quality standards.
Responsibilities in Role
Represent the Electrical Engineering team on multiple, interdisciplinary spaceflight projects.
Develop/assist with technical design documentation (requirements, diagrams, experiment protocols, etc.) and execute on the project electrical systems accordingly.
Implement and verify electrical systems through various tests along the project lifecycle. Develop associated test plans and action plans based on results.
Adhere to functional team quality assurance practices to ensure high quality EE products.
Serve as the primary electrical engineering representative for spaceflight projects by leading electrical integration and assisting with build, testing, checkout, and quality assurance.
Take initiative to coordinate inter-project team communication to solve project issues as they arise.
Utilize other functional team members to provide feedback and guidance for project troubleshooting activities when issues arise.
Participate in external stakeholder and internal team communication in a professional manner.
Identify improvements in standard project electrical systems to improve reliability, usability, and scalability.
Lead and/or assist with IRAD projects when assigned.
Continually review, learn, and discuss with other team members about applicable NASA safety requirements and regulations that apply to electrical engineering designs for spaceflight projects.
Research existing industry electrical engineering platforms that could positively impact current or future company designs.
Work closely with the Electrical Engineering functional team and project team(s) to ensure success of assigned projects.
Travel to support customer or partner projects and launches.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related technical discipline
4+ years related engineering experience
Extensive knowledge of PCB design and development including part selection, interpreting datasheets, analog and digital electronics design, schematic development, complex layout and routing (multi-layer stack-up, thermal management techniques, high speed design, RF and analog layout, etc.) associated fabrication and population, board bring-up and debugging, and quality management
Extensive knowledge of firmware skills including embedded C/C++ programming, assembly languages, RTOS, microcontroller architectures, device drivers (sensors, comm modules, storage, actuators, etc.), debugging tools, version control, bootloaders and firmware update mechanisms, and common buses and protocols (I2C, SPI, UART, GPIO, USB, Ethernet, etc)
Extensive knowledge of hands-on hardware integration and testing including sensor selection and interfaces, cable and connector design, electrical safety, system integration (PCBS, sensors, actuators, mechanical interfaces, firmware, etc), and general engineering troubleshooting and verification techniques
Desired Qualifications
6+ years related engineering experience, 4+ years’ experience in space industry
Master’s degree (or advanced training) in a related technical discipline
Experience in spaceflight payload design from concept to implementation in microgravity
Knowledge of NASA safety requirements and regulations Interpersonal Skills
Manage and track multiple priorities while maintaining a focus towards common project goals
Attention to detail and creative and innovative problem-solving skills
Ability to work effectively in a dynamic environment that includes working with changing needs and requirements
Ability to lead multiple technical projects and work with Director of Electrical Engineering and Project Managers to determine the urgency of a given task
Exceptional project and technical management skills
Excellent written and verbal communication skills for both a technical and non-technical audience
Motivated for self, functional team, and company success
Willingness to teach/learn new skills and techniques to/from both external and internal sources
