Overview
Coffman Engineers is seeking a
Fire Protection Engineer
who will be a Winter 2025 or Spring 2026 graduate with a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree in Fire Protection Engineering or Fire Protection & Safety Engineering Technology. This position supports a multi-discipline engineering team focused on life safety and fire protection concepts.
Responsibilities
Provide life safety code analysis, egress analysis, and fire resistant rated construction analysis.
Design and analyze automatic suppression systems, fire detection, alarm, and communication systems.
Design and analyze smoke control systems and perform special inspections; conduct site inspections and witness life safety system testing.
Perform fire hazard analysis, performance-based design, and contribute to general fire protection and life safety concepts.
Collaborate with a team and support client objectives through technical mentorship and training.
Qualifications
Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree in Fire Protection Engineering or Fire Protection & Safety Engineering Technology from an accredited college or university.
Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, including oral presentation skills.
Ability to work on a highly motivated team, think creatively, and take pride in the work.
Desired Skills & Duties
Technical writing skills and intermediate computer skills (email, word processing, spreadsheets, simple graphics).
Ability to multi-task and prioritize in a fast-paced environment; manage day-to-day client contacts using experience and technology.
Research and document preparation for internal and external distribution.
Knowledge or willingness to learn: building and fire code analysis, life safety plans, analysis of existing fire protection systems, and designing new systems including suppression, detection, alarm, and mass notification.
Experience with AutoCAD or Revit for fire protection system designs.
