Senior Manager, Software & Cloud Engineering
Overview
The 7-Eleven Store Technology team is searching for a Senior Software Engineering Manager with strong architectural and coding expertise to lead the development of our cloud-powered retail platform. This role involves close collaboration with engineers, developers, and product owners to shape scalable cloud architectures that power thousands of stores and deliver seamless experiences for millions of customers each day. A successful candidate will champion the adoption and integration of major cloud technologies, such as microservices, containerization, cloud data platforms, and real-time analytics. Leadership in guiding engineering teams is essential, with a focus on defining the product backlog and building customer-centric solutions. By fostering teamwork, driving continuous improvement, and ensuring technical excellence, this manager delivers high quality, reusable components for a robust retail cloud ecosystem. Primary Responsibilities
Lead the team in designing, developing, deploying, and managing cloud-based solutions, with a focus on Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using tools such as CloudFormation and Terraform. Oversee the full lifecycle of cloud development, DevOps, engineering, and support, driving architecture, implementation, documentation, and operational excellence. Establish and implement cloud architecture best practices to optimize performance, cost, and security - primarily in AWS, while enabling integrations with Azure and Google Cloud Platform. Demonstrate deep expertise in AWS, including EC2, Fargate, S3, SNS, SQS, Lambda, API Gateway, Auto Scaling, and Kinesis. Conduct regular audits and assessments of cloud environments to identify improvements and ensure compliance with industry standards. Mentor and provide technical guidance to developers and cloud engineers, emphasizing secure networking and application/cloud security best practices. Foster an automation-first culture, leading initiatives to automate provisioning, deployment, configuration management, and monitoring. Evaluate and adopt new cloud technologies and tools in driving innovation and maintaining awareness of industry trends. Lead incident response and troubleshooting for cloud infrastructure issues, demonstrating strong problem-solving skills in a fast-paced environment. Communicate effectively with stakeholders to capture requirements, provide updates, and deliver clear technical solutions. Ensure robust implementation, monitoring, and logging via tools such as New Relic, Logz, Loki, ELK stack, Prometheus, and Grafana, etc. Apply technical breadth across software engineering, system integration, cloud platform expertise, enterprise and event-driven architecture. Practice SAFe Agile methodologies throughout design, development, testing, deployment, and support phases. Provide leadership in key development technologies, such as Java, NodeJS, React, MongoDB, NoSQL, REST APIs, Spring Framework, JSON, JUnit, AWS Cloud technology and modern CI/CD pipelines. Minimum Qualifications
Master’s degree in computer science, Information Technology, or related field. 10+ years of experience in a similar role, with a strong focus on cloud infrastructure design and management, ideally in high-volume environments. Advanced expertise in AWS cloud platform; hands-on experience with Azure and Google Cloud Platform is a plus. Proven track record designing and operating scalable systems that support large transaction volumes. Exceptional self-drive, proactivity, and a results-oriented mindset with the ability to act decisively and deliver under pressure. Up-to-date with the latest software development tools, cloud technologies, and best practices. Experience in retail platforms or similar industries is highly beneficial. Excellent analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving abilities, thriving in fast-paced, team-based environments. Outstanding communication skills for explaining complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders. Demonstrated experience collaborating with application development, data engineering, infrastructure, and IT support teams to drive secure and efficient cloud integrations. Detail-oriented approach with a commitment to quality and results in dynamic situations. Strong foundation in secure software development, application security, and a ‘code first’ mindset. Solid working knowledge of CI/CD processes, tool integration, and debugging/testing methodologies. Advanced skills in containerization and orchestration technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes.
