Electrical Design Engineer (DOD Project)
Johnson Service Group (JSG) is recruiting an experienced Electrical Design Engineer for a 12‑month contract assignment supporting the U.S. Air Force facility near Ogden, UT. This onsite role offers a W2 hourly base rate with time and a half for overtime, per diem, and mobilization/demobilization. The target base rate is $75.00/hr. Position Summary
United States citizenship is required. The role supports the USAF Sentinel Program EMD phase by preparing engineering studies, drawings, calculations, specifications, and evaluations per applicable procedures, codes, standards, and contract requirements. Full‑time on‑site presence is required at Hill Air Force Base, just outside Salt Lake City, UT. Major Responsibilities
Evaluate, select, and apply standard electrical engineering methods, techniques, procedures, and criteria, using independent judgment in making adaptations and modifications. Participate in design, development and modification of components and processes used in generation, manipulation, transmission, and storage of electricity using relevant EDPs, design standards and guides, and BSAPs. Coordinate work and collaborate with other engineering disciplines and specialty groups, including client, vendor, contractors, construction, and other functional groups. Prepare conceptual studies, designs, reports or proposals. Provide technical assistance to other electrical personnel and interact with project functions, customers, and regulatory agency personnel in resolving complex regulatory issues and industry codes and standards. Assist project and construction management in identifying and complying with project electrical requirements and addressing issues during project execution. Support design development of Electrical systems and equipment for the Sentinel program by preparing engineering studies, drawings, calculations, specifications, and evaluations per applicable procedures, codes, standards, and contract requirements. Work with and mentor junior electrical engineers and other technical disciplines in a team environment. Develop new design drawings using AutoCAD (single lines, panel schedules, schematics, cable block diagrams, grounding, lightning protection, cathodic protection, etc.). Perform power system analysis modeling and calculations using ETAP (Load Flow, Short Circuit, Motor Starting, Relay Coordination, Arc Flash). Perform facility calculations such as lighting design (AGI 32), facility ground grid sizing and underground cable thermal de‑rating analysis using ETAP. Perform equipment sizing calculations for medium voltage utility and low voltage transformers, panel boards, surge protective devices, UPS and battery sizing. Perform circuit breaker and cable sizing calculations per NFPA 70 with de‑rating factors. Develop equipment and material specifications using SpecsIntact. Develop procurement documentation and evaluate supplier proposals. Review vendor submittals and integrate information into design. Coordinate systems requirement development and verifications with Systems Engineering and the client. Education / Experience
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering (required). 5+ years of experience designing electrical systems and equipment on nuclear or industrial process facilities, data centers, utility plants, or complex building electrical systems (required). Strong understanding of engineering drawings, system calculations, equipment sizing, and cable sizing (required). Strong knowledge of power systems load modeling and analysis (required). Knowledge of industry and regulatory guides, codes, and standards (required). Understanding of mechanical and process engineering discipline drawings and calculations related to electrical design requirements (required). Excellent communication skills (verbal and written) (required). Must be able to complete and pass a pre‑employment drug screen and background check (required). Preferred Requirements
Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering (preferred). Registered Professional Engineer in USA (Electrical Engineering) (preferred). Experience with quality assurance programs such as ISO‑9000 (preferred). Prior experience working with government agencies, preferably Department of Defense (preferred). Experience executing engineering design with Smartplant 3D (preferred). Intermediate knowledge of developing CSI Masterformat specifications or SpecsIntact (preferred). Design experience with Unified Facilities Criteria and the Whole Building Design Guide (preferred). Secret clearance is preferred, but not required (preferred). Benefits
