Public Safety Dispatcher, Whiskeytown, CA United States | Hawaii National Park, HI United States
Duties
Serves as a dispatcher in the Park Communications Center, providing all emergency and non-emergency law enforcement and medical communications for the parks. Supports search and rescue and fire dispatch operations.
Operates multi-channel radio and coordinates radio traffic for rescues, law enforcement, ambulance, boating, natural disasters, and other emergency situations, including park inter-divisional operations.
Conducts records checks using systems such as NCIC and NLETS.
May respond to a dedicated emergency response (911) line in some locations.
Travel, transportation, and relocation expenses are not paid; employees are responsible for these costs.

Must function efficiently in confined spaces for extended periods, working most holidays, adverse weather, and long hours during emergencies. The position is sedentary, high-stress, and may involve shift work, including rotating and unusual hours. Requires use of voice for hours, clear and understandable communication, and the ability to hear and discern multiple signals simultaneously. Must read critical information quickly from various sources and maintain logs. May involve lifting supplies up to 50 pounds. Work Environment:
Performed in a well-lit, temperature-controlled room with high noise levels from electronic equipment. The environment is confined and secure. During training or specific assignments, may accompany field personnel in patrol vehicles. Leaving the center is not permitted unless relieved by another qualified dispatcher.
