GAI is seeking an Engineer 2 (transmission line) to join our Power Delivery team working remotely based in Austin, TX. Required skills include transmission line design experience, critical thinking, problem solving, organization, team-focus, and eagerness to apply learned engineering principles to solve real life problems.
The Engineer 2 is responsible for technical leadership and the successful delivery of transmission line designs while maintaining the scope, schedule, budget, and quality of projects within GAI’s Transmission & Distribution Division. This individual should be technically focused and a strong leader with developed technical, communication, and computer skills.
Competency
Knowledge of electric utility transmission line engineering and design.
Job Responsibilities:
Complete day-to-day project tasks as required for successful project delivery. Tasks may include: Preparation of Specification Packages Preparation of Structural and Fabrication Drawings Design and Analysis of Transmission Lines using PLS-CADD, PLS-POLE, and PLS-Tower is a bonus Design and Analysis of foundations. Analysis of existing and proposed structures with regard to Client and Other required codes, standards, and specifications. Performance of Electrical Clearance checks and calculations. Apply engineering principles to assist in the design of Power Delivery Projects. Must demonstrate attention to detail. Demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills. Perform complex tasks typically following established processes. Implements effective engineering methods, provides technical guidance, and acts as a resource for engineers and designers. Directly manages projects with no limit to the number or value of individual projects managed.
Education And Training Preferred:
Bachelor’s degree from an ABET accredited college or university in engineering is required. Preferred a degree in Civil, or Electrical engineering. PE License required Comprehensive knowledge of transmission line design concepts and principles. Demonstrated track record of external customer engagements and building and maintaining successful client relationships. 6+ years of experience in transmission line design. Required experience with PLS suite (PLS-CADD and PLS-POLE). Preferred experience with PLS-TOWER and FAD Tools.

Leads tasks and projects of moderately complex scopes. Develops plans, specifications, and other project documents. Selects appropriate principles of engineering economics, and probability and statistics to analyze risk in a complex engineering problem.

Receives general direction on key objectives. Receives guidance on unconventional/complex problems, direction on modified techniques, and new approaches on assignments with conflicting criteria. Mentors junior staff by providing guidance, explaining professional responsibilities, and reviewing work products. Attends project meetings and presents specific aspects of engineering assignments.
Communication Skills
Communicates effectively to both technical and nontechnical audiences.
