Senior Water Resources Engineer

– 5-10 years of professional experience. The role involves managing and performing engineering duties for complex water resources projects. The ideal candidate will be a technical leader, capable of overseeing project delivery while contributing to hands-on engineering tasks. Most projects support government clients throughout the Commonwealth of Virginia.

What you’ll do

Perform and oversee advanced hydrologic and hydraulic modeling using software such as SWMM (2D SWMM preferred), HEC-RAS, and HEC-HMS

Manage water resources projects from initiation to closeout, including scope, schedule, budget, and quality control

Provide technical leadership and expertise on water resources projects, ensuring high-quality deliverables

Develop and maintain strong client relationships, serving as a primary point of contact and understanding their needs

Prepare comprehensive proposals and scopes of work for new project opportunities, contributing to business development

Mentor and guide junior engineering staff, fostering their professional growth and technical capabilities

Lead efforts in FEMA floodplain management studies, analyses, and regulatory compliance

Apply advanced mapping and data analysis using ArcGIS to support project solutions and presentations

Manage project contracts and task orders effectively, ensuring successful project execution

Contribute to the strategic growth of the water resources practice within the firm

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, with extensive coursework in water resources (including hydrology and hydraulics)

5-10 years of progressive professional experience in performing and managing water resources projects

Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) in VA or ability to obtain within 6 months via reciprocity

Demonstrated expertise with hydrologic and hydraulic modeling software, including SWMM (2D SWMM preferred), HEC-RAS, and HEC-HMS

Proven experience with FEMA floodplain management studies, regulations, and processes

Advanced experience with mapping and data analysis using ArcGIS

Preferred Qualifications

Solid experience with contract and task order management

Exceptional communication skills (written and verbal), capable of clear and concise technical communication and client interactions

Proven experience with client service management and developing client relationships

Extensive experience working with Virginia municipalities

Be dependable, responsible, and possess excellent problem-solving abilities

Must have a valid driver’s license, ability to pass a DMV record check, and be insurable
