Full Time, Salaried Position Location: Janesville, WI This position is split between Mercyhealth Trauma Center and the East Clinic. Plans, directs and coordinates technical activities of laboratory staff in addition to performing clinical or anatomic laboratory duties. Work at other Mercy facilities performing the same functions, as required. Work alternate shifts, weekends and holidays as needed to adequately provide services. Perform other duties and projects as assigned. Responsibilities

Essential Duties and Responsibilities Provides day to day supervision of technical area along with coordination of workflow to ensure quality service and prompt handling of issues. Provides leadership to direct reports; promotes teamwork; identifies interpersonal issues and assists with conflict resolution; provides professional development opportunities, coaching and mentoring. Manage scheduling, payroll, orientation, competency assessment, performance appraisals, corrective action and performance improvement plans. Coordinates communication with medical director and lab leadership. Monitors operational budget, evaluates systems for cost effectiveness and reduction of operational expenses; reviews monthly to ensure FTE and supply expense match volumes; contributes to capital, expense and revenue budgets. Utilizes the information system to receive patients, order and collect samples, result tests, answer questions from nurses and physicians, document quality control activities and generate required reports. Confirms accuracy of patient sample identification prior to analyses; evaluates specimen quality and identifies when unacceptable; documents information concerning specimen quality and impact of suboptimal specimens on test values; initiates recollection as indicated. Performs waived, moderate and high complexity lab tests as defined by CLIA in hematology, urinalysis, chemistry and blood bank or microbiology by automated and manual methods according to policies and procedures. Analyzes test results prior to release; recognizes problems with testing methodologies; troubleshoots suspect results and implements corrective action when findings are inaccurate. Performs high complexity tests such as bone marrow, sperm morphology, etc. Ensures designated turnaround times for results are met and that critical results are reported and documented. Performs quality control and proficiency testing procedures as defined by policy; interprets and troubleshoots QC results to ensure accurate results. Performs preventative maintenance, advanced troubleshooting and calibration of laboratory instrumentation; conducts method and instrument evaluation and implementation. Investigates and resolves technical issues and responds to customers. Participates on interdepartmental committees or teams; teaches students and trains new partners. Develops effective quality control programs; reviews QC results and submits data for peer review; makes necessary adjustments for all lab specialties. Ensures enrollment in proficiency testing programs and administers proficiency testing according to regulatory standards with acceptable performance for all lab specialties. Develops policies, procedures and performance standards for all lab specialties; develops orientation protocols, checklists and training protocols for partners; ensures initial and annual competency checklists are completed. Evaluates new methods, procedures and equipment; ensures regulatory compliance and represents lab during accreditation surveys. Serves as a technical resource to medical staff, system laboratories and other departments; maintains appropriate inventory to ensure smooth operation of the laboratory. Investigates and resolves customer concerns; responds in a timely manner. Completes partner performance evaluations; selects and interviews partners with manager; ensures appropriate billing of all miscellaneous laboratory tests. Keeps current with developing technology and changes in the laboratory industry; maintains competency in current procedures and gains competency for new methods implemented. Bachelor's Degree preferred. Associate of Science degree in laboratory science or medical laboratory technology, or military equivalent, and 6 years clinical laboratory experience required. Certification and Licensure

MT, MLS, CLS, Generalist Certification or Specialty Certification BB, C, H, M, HTL or CT required. Skills and Abilities
