Overview As a Research Instrument Sales Specialist (RIS), you will be responsible for driving sales of BD’s flow cytometry instrument portfolio within your assigned territory. You will work strategically with cross-functional partners to deliver complete solutions that enable drug development and translational research, with a special focus on the Pharma/Biotech market. Key academic sites are also included in the territory. Territory includes: MA, with a focus on the Boston/Cambridge Market, CT, RI, NH, VT, ME.

Responsibilities

Develop and execute a Territory Business Plan to achieve sales goals.

Utilize Power BI and Salesforce.com to manage pipeline, forecast, and territory analytics.

Own and manage the sales funnel from lead generation through closing.

Conduct regular customer meetings, focusing on key accounts and high-value opportunities.

Cultivate relationships with scientists, principal investigators, and lab managers.

Deliver impactful product presentations, demos, and solution-based selling.

Partner with Reagent Sales Specialists, Applications Specialists, Field Service Engineers, High Parameter Team, and Global Key Accounts to deliver unified solutions.

Coordinate and execute regional and national marketing initiatives and contractual agreements.

Solve customer problems and create value through tailored solutions.

Escalate service and support issues as needed to ensure customer satisfaction.

Maintain accurate and timely records of customer interactions and opportunity updates.

Expand reach into Pharma, Biotech, CROs, and incubators; expected field presence 3–4 days per week.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Life Sciences or related field; advanced degree preferred.

Ideally three or more years of capital equipment sales experience in life sciences or healthcare and experience in working with large accounts.

Strong understanding of flow cytometry and research workflows.

Excellent communication, negotiation, and presentation skills.

Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, as well as CRM tools (Salesforce.com) and data analytics platforms (Power BI).

Ability to collaborate with peers in reagent sales, technical applications, science force, and global key accounts to promote system selling of BD products.

Demonstrated successful sales track record with solid negotiation, listening, and presentation skills; ability to pre-call plan to assess customer needs.

Preferred – Experience with customers in drug development or translational research (e.g., CROs, pharma/biotech, government research, immunology/cancer centers).

Willingness to travel extensively within the assigned territory, up to 50% travel.
