New Jersey's academic health center, Rutgers Biomedical and Health Sciences (RBHS) takes an integrated approach to educating students, providing clinical care, and conducting research, all with the goal of improving human health. Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Clinic Services Representative I for the department of Medicine at the Robert Wood Johnson Medical School. Performs a variety of billing and collection duties in support of clinic and/or business operations. Provides guidance and leadership to Clinic Services Representatives II at a variety of clinic sites, as needed. Functions as a senior staff member handling more complex issues and problems. Key Responsibilities
Acts as the first point of contact with patients to resolve basic inquiries, involving insurance companies and third-party companies relating to billing, insurance payments, payment arrangements, etc. Collects co-payments or self-pay balances from patients. Researches complex billing issues and consults with management for resolution in accordance with established guidelines. Verifies and updates patient demographic, insurance and other information by utilizing various database systems (e.g., PATCOM, WebMD, IDX, Navinet, etc.). Responsible for patient registration, check-out, and/or charge entry transactions. Monitors accuracy of billing records and assists in auditing of same, as required. Ensures that information provided to patients, co-workers, insurance companies, etc. is accurate and current. Works effectively as a team member, offering support, making suggestions, accepting change and handling stress in an appropriate manner. Acts as a floater by working in varied clinic or back end assignments, as required by business and operational needs Benefits

Minimum Education and Experience: Three (3) years of progressively responsible clerical experience required, of which at least one (1) year must have been in a business setting involving billing and collection or medical insurance activities. Prior experience accessing and retrieving information from a computer database. ICD9 and CPT coding knowledge. Demonstrated proficiency with billing and collection software. Demonstrated quantitative orientation and strong background in financial transactions and record keeping. Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
