Responsibilities
Training of lab personnel, daily operations of the lab, incoming sample processing, maintaining calibration of equipment.
Ensuring health and safety processes and procedures are followed, maintenance of a safe, ergonomically sound, professional work environment.
Manage daily operations of the laboratory.
Oversee safety, ergonomics, maintenance, and cleanliness of department (including upgrades, repairs, etc.).
Oversee implementation of SOPs for incoming sample processing in accordance with company policy.
Oversee/ensure all processed documentation is complete and reviewed as required.
Ensure sample workflow from logistics meets the needs of the department.
Monitor special handling of identified clients.
Establish a positive work environment that actively encourages and supports employee involvement.
Identify, develop and implement process improvement plans. Hold regularly scheduled staff meetings to ensure staff understands the expectations of the company, clients and general safety in lab operations.
Track/enter time/attendance of employees.
Prepare month-end reports.
Investigate, resolve and respond to client complaints.
Ensure company policies are followed; train and develop staff.
Monitor ongoing performance of employees; provide corrective action and counseling as required.
Work effectively with internal departments to resolve problems; demonstrate interpersonal skills to gain cooperation and foster continuous improvements.
Strong written and spoken English skills; other languages are advantageous.
Persuasive, diplomatic, and able to convey concepts clearly; strong ability to sell ideas.
Hands-on, open-minded, proactive team player.
Ensure on-time delivery of test reports free of errors and meet customer expectations.
Implement efficiency improvement, process improvement, and 5S processes.
Qualifications Education and Experience
Bachelor Degree in Science, with emphasis in chemistry or other related field.
3-5 years in a management and/or supervisory role.
Prior experience in the Oil & Gas industry preferred.
Prior experience with instrumentation and calibrations.
Knowledge / Skills / Abilities
Must be able to work with all chemicals, petrochemicals and petroleum products.
Excellent communication, writing, presenting and analytical skills.
Ability to effectively manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
Willingness and ability to work with minimal supervision and to effectively prioritize and schedule workload to meet requirements and deadlines.
Ability to work effectively under pressure.
Takes initiative and is proactive in addressing issues; quickly and efficiently completes tasks.
Ability to build and lead an effective team and foster a sense of collaboration to achieve goals.
Ability to synthesize information from a variety of sources into solutions.
Excellent knowledge in Microsoft Office Suite (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.).
