Job Summary The Director of Dining Services is the strategic business leader of the community’s food and beverage/culinary operation, ensuring resident and client satisfaction by providing a consistently high-quality product and best-in-class hospitality, while meeting financial goals and driving a positive work environment. You will oversee the development and implementation of departmental strategies and ensure implementation of the Compass Community Living’s service strategy, and be the face of the company.
Responsibilities
Develop and implement overall operating strategy aligned with Compass Community Living and client business strategy; disseminate the vision so all team members understand expectations.
Maintain an entrepreneurial approach, own outcomes, and hold on-site leadership accountable for demonstrating desired service behaviors.
Evaluate personnel, operations, and culinary situations and make appropriate recommendations.
Maintain professionalism and resilience during stressful periods; adapt and problem solve as required.
Perform daily walk-throughs to ensure compliance with Department of Health regulations and Compass Group standards.
Direct and conduct safety, sanitation, and maintenance programs.
Ensure regular communication in all areas of food and beverage with pre-meal briefings and staff meetings.
Advise and update executives, supervisors, co-workers, and subordinates in a timely manner via telephone, written form, e-mail, or in person.
Business and Financial Competence
Understand market dynamics and Compass Community Living’s objectives to diagnose strengths/weaknesses, identify risks, and develop strategies.
Recognize and understand P&L drivers; analyze results and implement plans to deliver results.
Develop overall budget and operate the account within approved budget while delivering value.
Coach and support the team to manage wages, food & beverage costs, and controllable expenses.
Review financial reports to assess performance against budget and develop improvement strategies.
Ensuring Exceptional Customer Service
Understand the client’s business model to prioritize resident needs.
Be visible within the community to build relationships with residents, staff, and other departments.
Review resident satisfaction data, provide feedback, and take corrective action to deliver outcomes.
Improve service through mentorship, feedback, and coaching; stay aware of market trends and introduce new F&B offerings.
Empower employees to provide excellent service that exceeds expectations.
Team Building & Management
Lead regular team meetings and model positive behavior to motivate staff toward best-in-class hospitality.
Set goals (performance, budget, team) and seek feedback to address issues.
Coach, mentor, and train team members to achieve objectives; promote professional growth and cross-training.
Hire food & beverage leadership with strong functional expertise; ensure fair treatment of employees.
Preferred Qualifications
B.S. in Food Services Technology/Management or related field; or A.A. plus four years related experience.
Five to seven years of direct foodservice operational management experience with inventory and purchasing knowledge.
Strong knowledge of food and catering trends with emphasis on quality, production, sanitation, cost controls, and presentation.
P&L accountability or contract-managed service experience desirable.
Strong supervisory, leadership, and coaching skills; excellent written and verbal communication.
Ability to communicate at various levels (management, client, customer, associate).
Strong financial, budgeting, accounting skills; proficient with Microsoft Office; ServSafe Certified.
