Overview
MRI Technologist - TGH Imaging Habana role at Tampa General Hospital. This position is accountable for performing Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) procedures that produce high quality diagnostic digital exams, following established protocols for various age groups of patients. Works with basic MRI skills with limited supervision and assumes responsibility for designated area or procedures as required.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Verifies that the prescription matches the procedure to be performed and records all reasons for the exam, including signs and symptoms.
Explains procedures to patients to reduce anxieties and obtain cooperation.
Administers oral and/or IV contrast when necessary or ordered.
Familiar with effects of SAR levels and follow proper magnetic safety protocols.
Position patient on examining table following protocols and adjusts immobilization devices to obtain optimum views of the specified area.
Moves MR equipment into specified position and adjusts exposure factors per protocols.
Processes radiologic MRI digital images, checks technical quality and diagnostic acceptability, and prints CDs when requested.
Verifies that the patient’s exam corresponds to the ordered exam in PACS; makes changes in billing codes/exam titles as needed.
Present any prior studies along with current studies to radiologist for diagnostic assessment.
Stock and/or order supplies, check machine for problems, perform equipment QC as needed; perform other duties as assigned.
Pursue all other duties as assigned.
Qualifications / Education / Experience
High school diploma or equivalent.
Graduate of a 2-year radiologic technology program from an accredited school.
Current and valid Florida State License (CRT).
Current and valid Radiologic Technologist (ARRT) registry.
MRI Registry eligible.
Basic Life Support (BLS) through the American Heart Association (CPR).
Knowledge and skill performing MRI general procedures and protocols; knowledge of anatomy and physiology necessary to perform MRI imaging, including body mechanics and patient movement.
Knowledge of safety requirements for staff, patients and visitors; skill in positioning patients properly.
Skill in using computer network systems to process patient and department information; ability to perform quality exams and exercise compassion with patients; skill in IVs for administration of contrast materials.
Ability to communicate clearly in person and over the phone to establish/maintain cooperative relationships with patients, families, physicians, and other staff.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with patients, co-workers, and management.
Knowledge of customer service concepts and clinic policies including safety, privacy and HIPAA regulations.
