Job Description - MRI Technologist III- TGH Imaging Bruce B Downs (250003JW) Summary:
This position is accountable for performing Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) procedures which produce high quality diagnostic digital exams. This position is either MRI Float Technologist, MRI Technologist who conducts cardiac studies or breast biopsies or a MRI Team Lead. Works at a level not requiring constant supervision while demonstrating advanced MRI skills and following protocols established for a variety of age groups of patients. Performs a variety of general technical (IV skilled) MRI procedures that will require judgement and initiative for radiological diagnosis. Assumes responsibility for designated area or procedures as required. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Verifies that the prescription matches the procedure that is going to be performed, and records all reasons for the exam including signs and symptoms. Explains procedures to patient to reduce anxieties and obtain patient cooperation. Administers oral and/or IV contrast when necessary or ordered. Familiar with effects of SAR levels and follows proper magnetic safety protocols. Positions patient on examining table by following protocols and adjusts immobilization devices to obtain optimum views of specified area of body requested by physician, and works with the radiologist and team performing biopsies of the breast. Moves MR equipment into specified position and adjusts equipment controls to set exposure factors such as time and distance per protocols. Processes radiologic MRI digital images and examines for technical quality and diagnostic acceptability, and prints CDs when requested. Verify that the patient’s exam corresponds to the ordered exam in PACS. Make changes in billing codes/exam titles as needed. Make sure to present any prior studies along with current studies to radiologist for diagnostic assessment. Stock/Order supplies, check machine for any problems, perform equipment QC as needed and any other duties that may be assigned to you daily. All other duties as assigned. Qualifications – Required Qualifications / Education / Experience: High school diploma or equivalent. Graduate of a 2-year radiologic technology program from an accredited school. Current and valid Florida State License (CRT). Current and valid Radiologic Technologist (ARRT) registry MRI (MR) registry OR American Registry of Magnetic Resonance Imaging Technologist (ARMRIT). Basic Life Support BLS through the American Heart Association (CPR). Knowledge & skill performing MRI general procedures and protocols. Knowledge of anatomy and physiology necessary to perform MRI imaging including body mechanics and patient movement. Knowledge of safety requirements for staff, patients and visitors. Skill in positioning patients properly. Skill in using computer network system competently to process patient and department information. Skill in performing quality exams and exercising compassion with patients. Skill in IVs for administration of contrast materials. Skill in completing job functions in a timely manner. Knowledge of customer service concepts and clinic policies including safety, privacy and HIPAA regulations. Ability to communicate clearly in person and over the phone to establish/maintain cooperative relationships with patients, families, physicians and other staff. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with patients, co-workers, and management. Float technologists will be responsible for learning and knowing different equipment at various locations. Primary Location
