Job Summary Michigan Dialysis has three locations including Livonia, Canton, and Ann Arbor. The Canton and Ann Arbor Michigan Dialysis Services (MDS) center specialize in in-center hemodialysis and home therapies. Livonia MDS currently specializes in in-center hemodialysis. This is a joint venture between Renal Research Institute (RRI) of Michigan and Michigan Health Corporation (MHC) dedicated to providing high quality dialysis care for adults. The primary facility is located at MDS Dialysis at Livonia Center For Specialty Care, 19900 Haggerty Road #111, Livonia MI 48152.

Provides professional nursing leadership and administrative direction in the MDS Outpatient Dialysis Program. Participates as a member of leadership teams to provide and continually improve health care services and to support the mission and goals of Michigan Dialysis Services (MDS), Inc. and Michigan Medicine.

Responsibilities

Develop and implement clinic goals and objectives which include the establishment of standards of practice in patient care in accordance with national professional and regulatory guidelines.

Integrate clinic goals and objectives with Nursing Service goals and objectives; advise and assist with the establishment of priorities and institutional program development.

Work closely with medical staff and other disciplines for the successful implementation of patient, department, and institutional objectives. Assist in the resolution of interdisciplinary operating problems.

Supervise operations of the department. Establish minimum/maximum staffing patterns to ensure quality patient care. Initiate and implement a staffing schedule which is consistent with care requirements and responds to varying patient activity and patient mix.

Identify and recommend specific staffing needs and position qualifications consistent with the respective clinic objectives and patient case mix.

Interview and select qualified personnel.

Evaluate performance of nursing staff responsible to patient care. Make recommendations for merit awards and personnel classification changes; counsel and discipline nursing staff to enable achievement of clinic and institutional objectives.

Interpret and implement University and hospital personnel policies and programs and ensure their uniform and correct application.

Project and monitor personnel budget for patient care clinic. Provide information regarding budget variances to the Associate Chief Nursing Officer or MDS Senior Nurse Director.

Collaborate and coordinate with other disciplines to plan, evaluate, and implement the commodity and revenue budget for the patient care clinic.

Collaborate with staff and department educator to initiate and implement in-service guidelines for clinic level orientation and staff development. Encourage and provide opportunities for continuing education of the nursing staff.

Initiate, plan, analyze, and participate in Nursing staff development programs and workshops.

Participate in concurrent and retrospective evaluation of patient care consistent with the hospital quality assurance program. Through this review process, evaluate and recommend changes and improvements in areas affecting the quality of patient care.

Establish guidelines with the nursing faculty which support the institutional goal of providing the primary clinical environment for nursing students. Facilitate, coordinate, and monitor the clinical experience of nursing and other students.

Initiate and cooperate in the applied research in health care in keeping with the institutional objectives of maintaining prominence in developing new modes of clinical practice.

Required Qualifications

Current licensure as a Registered Nurse in the state of Michigan.

Bachelor of Science in Nursing OR Associate's degree or Diploma in Nursing and a Master’s degree in Nursing.

Minimum five (5) years of experience as a Registered Nurse.

Minimum two (2) years (within the last five years) RN experience in caring directly for dialysis patients.

RN leadership certification or completion of a nurse leadership certification within two (2) years of accepting this position. Examples include Certified Nurse Manager and Leader (CNML) or Nurse Executive (NE-BC). The nursing leadership certification must be recognized by the Magnet Recognition Program and the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC).

Desired Qualifications

Two (2) years recent supervisory experience; supervisory experience in Outpatient Dialysis nursing is highly desired.

Recent experience in nursing management in a tertiary care setting, desired.

Minimum of five (5) years of RN experience with demonstration of progressive clinical competence in dialysis nursing, preferred.

Demonstrated leadership and management skills including personnel management and the ability to perform as a role model for Nursing Staff.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Ability to collaborate in a manner that fosters team building and to provide visionary direction for team members.

Ability to work effectively with administrators, physicians, peers, and subordinates.

Experience with change management process required.

Experience with interest-based problem solving and negotiations.

Familiarity with the continuous quality improvement process.

Work Schedule Hours: Full-time; FLSA status: Exempt. Shift: Shift and hours will vary based on unit needs. Location: Primary location Livonia, but could include Canton, Ann Arbor, or expand in future depending on additional sites.
