Overview

Chabot College, Hayward, CA is seeking a Part-Time Instructor, Microbiology. Start Date: Spring 2026. Location: Chabot College, 25555 Hesperian Blvd., Hayward, CA 94545. Salary: $2,075.12/CAH - $2,322.27/CAH. We are looking for excellent instructors who are student-centered in their approach and dedicated to student success. The ideal candidate will promote student engagement, incorporate culturally responsive pedagogy, have excellent communication skills with students, staff and faculty peers, and be equity-minded in their work.

Responsibilities

Deliver organized lectures to teach the topics as listed in the course outline of record (located at curricunet.com/chabot; search under course).

Evaluate students using formative assessments such as homework assignments, quizzes and exams.

Teach lab curriculum to satisfy the course outline of record in collaboration with the lab technician and lead faculty for Microbiology.

Provide effective and timely feedback to students.

Create a welcoming and student-centered learning and teaching environment.

Minimum Qualifications Master's degree in any biological science OR Bachelor's in any biological science AND Master's in biochemistry, biophysics, or marine science OR the equivalent. Evidence of understanding of and responsiveness to the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, racial and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, as these factors relate to the need for equity-minded practices within the classroom. Applicants applying under the "Equivalent" provision must provide details that explain at time of application how their academic preparation is the equivalent of the degree listed above.

Desirable Qualifications

Experience teaching at the community college level or being the instructor of record in lower division courses.

Experience teaching online.

Experience working or teaching in a laboratory.

Experience in maintaining a safe working environment and following all required safety procedures.
