Engineer 2 - Transmission Line at Pike Corporation
Overview
Provide transmission line design, engineering, technical support, and oversight to a transmission engineering and design team for the purpose of delivering safe, cost-effective, and quality engineering and design services. Provide technical competency and direction on complex engineering and technical problems for transmission line projects, to include renewable energy interconnections as well as grid modernization opportunities. The incumbent is expected to eventually lead discipline work for projects, perform engineering duties, and manage project schedules and budgets. The incumbent will also support proposal development and project cost estimating.
Responsibilities
Under minimum supervision in the area of power transmission and substations, provide engineering/technical expertise and guidance in the identification, analysis, and resolution of problems. Plan, organize, estimate, schedule, and monitor work activities; prepare thorough, timely, and accurate technical reports, correspondence, documentation, calculations, and sketches. Continuously improve job-related engineering, technical and professional knowledge, skills, and performance. Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. Understand and create transmission line drawing packages. Support the company’s goals and represent the company positively and professionally. Interact with customers’ internal engineers and technical personnel on a day-to-day basis; develop and maintain professional relationships with customers. Monitor deliverables and schedules; present solutions to the client. Perform other duties as assigned by management. Qualifications
Education: A Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university in Engineering; ABET-accredited program preferred. Experience: 1-3 years as an engineer with the electrical industry in the field of power delivery. Regular attendance is required. Certifications/Licenses: Prefer EIT; working toward Professional Engineering (PE) license. On-the-job Training: As needed for the job and employee development. Language Skills: Ability to read and interpret documents; ability to write simple correspondence; ability to respond to common inquiries from customers, regulatory agencies, or the business community. Other Skills: Basic engineering theories, ability to work independently, effective communication, understanding of electrical engineering concepts as they impact civil-structural designs, and the ability to collaborate with multiple stakeholders. Desired Skills and Qualifications
Bachelor of Science in Civil/Structural or Electrical Engineering. 2+ years of electrical utility transmission line design experience (69 kV and higher). Technical familiarity with transmission line design aspects including general arrangement and layout of structures, line components, foundation design, grounding, shielding, sag and tension limits, etc. Knowledge of a complete bill of materials for transmission line construction. Ability to deliver a complete design package (drawings, BOMs, conduit lists, construction specifications) on time and within budget with high quality. Working knowledge of NESC, ASCE, ACI, and IEEE. Experience with design/analysis tools (e.g., PLS-CADD, PLS-POLE, MFAD) and cost estimation; ability to prepare specifications and contract documents. Mentor designers/drafters; collaborate with other design disciplines, contractors, suppliers, and clients. Site visits to advise on issues and modify designs during construction. Project management capabilities to accomplish projects efficiently; assist in proposals and contracts; support permitting activities. Experience in field or construction environments implementing or verifying engineering drawings. Physical Demands
