role at Froedtert Health. Location: US:WI:MILWAUKEE at our FROEDTERT HOSPITAL facility. This job is ON - SITE. FTE: 0.9. Shift: 3 12-Hour shifts, 1900 - 0730. Unit: 3West Cardiac Progressive Care. 3WEST is a 50 bed Cardiac Progressive Care Unit that sees a multitude of complex patients, including Medicine Progressive Care and other MedSurg patients. Many patients require advanced monitoring or an elevated level of care. Specialties include cardiothoracic surgery, electrophysiology, advanced heart failure, lung/heart transplant, trans-venous pacing, mechanical circulatory support, and DKA management. 3WEST is a great place to learn while achieving an elevated scope of practice outside of the ICU setting. Job Summary / Responsibilities
The Charge Nurse is a Registered Nurse with unit lead responsibilities for patient flow and adjustment of unit staffing to meet the dynamic needs of the patients. Responsibilities include using the nursing process to evaluate patient acuity, assess staff workload, and anticipate admissions, discharges, and transfers. Facilitate patient flow, triage and prioritize admissions, and oversee care coordination for patients being discharged or transferred. Daily staffing decisions balance patient acuity and census with staff availability, experience, and competency to ensure safe staffing for all shifts. The Charge Nurse demonstrates leadership, communication, flexibility, adaptability, decisiveness, and awareness of hospital needs. Acts as a clinical leader and resource on the unit, collaborating with the interdisciplinary team to support patient care progression and unit goals. May assume a patient assignment as needed. As delegated by the Nurse Manager, monitors and addresses opportunities to assure regulatory compliance and quality of care and patient experience. When working as a Staff RN, the Charge Nurse is a practitioner responsible for assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating nursing care for an identified group of inpatient adults. This description aligns with the Staff RN-Inpatient duties and incorporates essential functions adapted from the ANA Nursing: Scope and Standards of Practice, 2nd Edition (2010). Experience Description
A minimum of 2 years of related clinical experience is required, unless approved by the Unit Manager. If applying to Critical Care, must have 2 years of Critical Care experience unless approved by the Unit Manager. Education Description
Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing is required. Froedtert Health may consider non-BSN prepared RNs with leadership skills and a plan to obtain a BSN within 5 years, or a waiver if already functioning as a Charge RN with 2-3 years in this role as of June 1, 2016. Special Skills Description
Demonstrated leadership history (e.g., Shared Governance council chair, Committee chair, Preceptor, Super User/Champion). Licensure Description
Current Wisconsin RN license or a Multi-state license from a Nurse Licensure Compact participating state. AHA BLS for Healthcare Providers required within 90 days of hire. ACLS is preferred. Perks & Benefits
