About the Position: The Physician / Surgeon serves as a treatment provider to patients at the Health Services Agency, Juvenile Detention Facility, the Jail and other community health settings as assigned. The incumbent examines, diagnoses and administers treatment and performs minor surgical operations to patients. This position supervises and instructs nurse practitioners, physician's assistants, medical assistants and nursing personnel in the care of surgical and medical cases. In addition, this position plays a strategic and critical role in collaborating with other healthcare providers and community agencies to provide comprehensive services to clients and families.

Examines, diagnoses and administers treatment and performs minor surgical operations to patients at the Health Services Agency Clinic; orders laboratory work and reviews laboratory reports; prescribes medications and authorizes medication refills in accordance with Agency protocol and State regulations and prepared formulary; admits patients to acute care hospital as needed; monitors patient progress and maintains patient charts and case histories, will be required to serve on-call as appropriate to accomplish these tasks, etc. Administers medical care to patients in a clinic or community setting; including dispensing and injecting medications and providing medical treatments. Any combination of training and experience which would provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required qualifications would be: Equivalent to the completion of twelfth (12th) grade and graduation from an accredited medical school with a Medical Degree. Two (2) years of professional experience as a physician and surgeon is desirable. Other combinations of education and experience may be considered.

License & Special Requirements:

Requires a valid California driver's license. Must possess, or be willing to obtain, a national provider identifier (NPI). Requires a valid license to practice as a physician and surgeon issued by the Medical Board of California or the Osteopathic Medical Board of California. Must complete periodic continuing education coursework as required to maintain active licensure. Must be an enrolled provider in Medicare and Medi-Cal or eligible for enrollment. Requires a valid Controlled Substance Registration Certificate issued by the Drug Enforcement Administration. Must not be excluded from participation in any federally funded health care program including, without limitation, Medicare or Medi-Cal. The department is currently recruiting for one (1) vacancy. In addition, Tehama County is establishing an eligibility list to fill future vacancies for a Physician/Surgeon, as well as subsequent vacancies, which occur during the life of the eligibility list.
