Position Summary The National Center for Clinical Trials (NCCT) is designed to serve as an innovative platform to revolutionize and catalyze the conduct of clinical trials—greatly accelerating the translation of scientific findings into improvements in the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of disease for our communities and patients. The NCCT will offer core services for patient recruitment and enrollment, trial administration and follow-up, and to gather real world data and evidence. The Clinical Trial Methods Center (CTMC) has been established within the Wake Forest University School of Medicine to provide the necessary tools and expertise that the NCCT will access and apply to deliver many of its core services.
The Manager, Business Development will play a pivotal role in advancing the mission of the NCCT by identifying, cultivating, and securing strategic partnerships with industry sponsors and other stakeholders. This individual will work closely with Business Development leadership and collaborate with the Director of Industry Engagement and Strategic Initiatives to drive growth, enhance visibility, and expand the clinical trials portfolio and RWD&E prowess across Advocate Health.
Education/Experience Master's degree in a relevant discipline such as Health Administration, Business, Public Health or a related field with three years of relevant experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience in business development, preferably within clinical research, RWD&E, healthcare, or life sciences. Experience working with Clinical Research Organizations (CROs), biopharmaceutical sponsors, and academic research institutions. Experience working with academic medical centers, integrated health systems, or large research networks. Proven track record of securing and managing industry partnerships. Strong understanding of clinical trial operations and/or RWD&E as well as regulatory considerations. Excellent communication, negotiation, and presentation skills.
Essential Functions Strategic Partnership Development
Identify and engage with potential industry partners to expand NCCT's clinical trial opportunities and RWD&E work, focusing on therapeutic areas aligned with Advocate Health's strategic priorities.
Pipeline Management
Develop and maintain a robust pipeline of business development opportunities, tracking progress from initial contact through contract execution.
Collaboration and Coordination
Work cross-functionally with NCCT leadership, researchers, legal, finance, and compliance teams to ensure seamless onboarding and execution of new partnerships.
Market Intelligence
Monitor industry trends, competitor activity, and emerging opportunities to inform strategic planning and positioning.
Conduct research to identify new markets and customer needs.
Proposal Development
Lead the creation and development of tailored proposals including negotiating terms and conditions, presentations, and pitch materials for prospective sponsor partners, showcasing NCCT's capabilities and value proposition.
Relationship Management
Foster long-term relationships with sponsors and CROs, ensuring satisfaction and identifying opportunities for repeat or expanded engagement.
Arrange business meetings with prospective clients, based on guidance from Business Development leadership.
Performance Metrics
Develop, track and report on key performance indicators (KPIs) related to business development activities, including deal volume, revenue impact, partner feedback, etc.
Cross-Functional Collaboration & Additional Duties
Collaborate with cross-functional teams across clinical, operational, and administrative domains to ensure alignment and execution of strategic initiatives.
Perform other related duties as assigned to support the overall success and mission of NCCT.
