Overview
The HVAC Service Department Manager leads and optimizes a team of HVAC service technicians, ensuring efficient field operations and exceptional customer service. This role involves strategic scheduling, budget oversight, performance tracking, and upholding safety and quality standards across service delivery. Responsibilities
Team Leadership & Management: Recruit, hire, train, evaluate, and if necessary, discipline technicians and support staff. Conduct performance reviews and foster a development-focused environment. Lead daily briefings, coach technicians on quality workmanship and safety, and schedule regular staff meetings. Evaluate workload and schedule technicians effectively to maximize efficiency and profitability. Oversee dispatch coordination, manage job assignments, and support technicians on complex troubleshooting tasks. Handle escalated customer issues and complaints to maintain satisfaction and loyalty. Conduct quality checks, job-site reviews, and uphold service standards through regular oversight. Create and manage departmental budgets, oversee P&L, and monitor service profitability. Review work orders, invoices, timecards, and payroll to ensure accuracy and effective cash flow management. Ensure timely ordering and distribution of parts and equipment. Qualifications
5+ years in HVAC service, including supervisory or management roles. High school diploma or equivalent; post-secondary, trade school, or vocational training preferred. HVAC/R certifications (such as NATE, EPA-608) and manufacturer or controls training are highly valued. Deep understanding of HVAC systems, including controls, chillers, boilers, refrigeration, and building automation. Proven leadership, conflict management, scheduling, and team development abilities.
