Overview
Oversees and directs the Quality Assurance program of the Department of Pathology. Monitors the laboratory compliance with regulatory agencies and all departmental Safety issues. Responsibilities include POCT services hospital-wide and Educational programs as directed by the Pathologists. Responsibilities
Quality assurance program: Oversees and guides the QA program within the Department of Pathology. Develops and evaluates monitors to measure departmental performance. Produces an Annual QA Report. Analyzes QA data to identify problems, proposes solutions and follows through. Communications: Actively communicates with applicable operations managers, Technical Specialists, Supervisors concerning QA, QC, technical and nontechnical issues. Develops routine lab satisfaction surveys, monitors results and suggests improvements. Coordinates lab participation in community and hospital-sponsored health events in coordination with LIS department marketing personnel and ARRL Operations Manager or Manager, Client Services. Communicates all new or updated protocols to staff in a timely manner. Regulatory affairs and safety: Oversees departmental safety and acts as liaison for interdepartmental and hospital-wide safety. Monitors and assures compliance with regulatory requirements. Oversees CAP/AABB/FDA/JCAHO/DPH inspections. Chairs PCE Subcommittee, maintains minutes, and develops/implements routine QA audits. Point-of-care testing (POCT): Guides and oversees the POCT program. Evaluates and proposes new tests and instruments. Oversees implementation of new POCT testing, procedures or instrumentation. Performs audits for hospital POCT programs. Other duties and functions: Participates as an effective “Shift Officer” within the ARRL and its assigned tasks including weekend supervisory coverage. Assigns and monitors special projects as requested by Pathologists and/or Administrative Director. Participates in personal continuing education activities. Attends departmental and supervisory meetings. Education / Training: Performs staff training and completes training checklists for new hires and existing staff. Creates and conducts training seminars on safety, quality, security and other policy issues as required. Designs competency assessment tools to verify staff competency. Develops cross-training programs with the Operations Manager tailored to job descriptions and staff needs. Education Coordinator: Schedules all students from affiliated institutions for rotations; acts as liaison between affiliated schools and Norwalk Hospital. Represents the Hospital and/or Department of Pathology at educational programs. Performs other duties as assigned and fulfills all compliance responsibilities related to the position. Education
BS MT (ASCP) required. Five or more years of experience in the role of Safety Officer for a hospital or health-center-based clinical laboratory, with extensive QA experience including regulatory affairs. Master’s degree preferred but not required. Other information
Required: BS MT (ASCP) required. Five plus years experience as Safety Officer in a hospital or health center clinical lab; extensive QA and regulatory affairs experience. Master’s degree preferred but not required. Minimum Experience: five years. Desired: ability to develop, communicate and monitor QA and Safety Programs within the clinical lab.
