at West Virginia University is seeking a Marketing Strategist. The role leads writing, research, interviewing, and editorial work to produce content for news releases, recruitment materials, communications, and multimedia campaigns. The incumbent will work independently and as part of a team in a deadline-driven environment. Responsibilities

Marketing and Media Responsibilities: Collaborate with marketing directors and enrollment teams to develop and implement strategic communications and marketing plans that promote the College and support student recruitment and retention goals; create content for student recruiting materials in partnership with relevant offices; track analytics to measure effectiveness; manage social media channels and post content to generate public interest; develop a social media calendar and execute data-driven campaigns; coordinate with WVU Strategic Communications and other units to align content; work with web and design staff to update recruitment content on the website; contribute to monthly newsletters; assist with special projects as needed. Writing and Communication Responsibilities: Research, write, and edit high-quality press releases and content highlighting the College’s programs and achievements; maintain contact with administrators, faculty, staff, students, and alumni to identify newsworthy content; reformat content for various communications, including magazines and newsletters; support WVU Strategic Communications in producing releases and announcements; ensure timely placement of press releases; manage multiple projects with deadlines; advise administrators/faculty/staff on communications; ensure adherence to brand policies; review outside news for potential stories; supervise student writers and edit content before publishing. Support and Events: Interact with local, regional, and national media; develop relationships with reporters; provide media support for events, competitions, and awards; assist with communications around events; perform other duties as assigned. Other: Maintain compliance with university communications policies and collaborate with marketing teams across WVU. Qualifications

Bachelor's degree required in journalism, communications, marketing, public relations, English or related field. Minimum two years of experience in journalism, communications, or public relations within higher education, science organizations, news media, government, or related fields. Experience in interviewing, researching, writing, editing, proofreading, and conducting social media on behalf of an organization; ability to create content aligned with brand guidelines. Equivalent combination of education and experience considered; all qualifications must be met by time of employment. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Excellent interviewing, writing, editing, and speaking skills; strong ability to distill and clarify ideas under deadline; AP and Chicago Style proficiency. Strong written and verbal communication, presentation skills, and ability to handle sensitive information; experience with photography, videography, and social media; broad knowledge of electronic and print communications and publishing tools; ability to work collaboratively with university stakeholders; skill in audience targeting and timing of messages; strong organizational skills and ability to handle multiple deadlines; commitment to brand guidelines; willingness to learn new platforms for storytelling; familiarity with ADA compliance in communications.
