Role description Arcadis is seeking a highly skilled and motivated

Junior Geotechnical Resident Engineer

to support the Gateway Hudson Tunnel Project (HTP) in the United States. We are working in partnership with Parsons and Mace as part of the

MPA Delivery Partner

team, selected by the Gateway Development Commission to deliver this transformative project. The HTP is a critical component of the broader Gateway Program—one of the most ambitious and impactful transportation initiatives in the nation—and is designed to strengthen mobility, resiliency, and reliability of the Northeast Corridor. The project encompasses the construction of a new two-track rail tunnel beneath the Hudson River, along with the full rehabilitation of the existing 113-year-old North River Tunnel. This vital infrastructure supports more than 200,000 daily passengers and underpins economic activity and connectivity between New York and New Jersey. This is a once-in-a-generation opportunity to contribute to a nationally significant infrastructure program and advance your career alongside a high-performing, multidisciplinary team.

Role Accountabilities

Assist in overseeing geotechnical site investigations, data collection, and interpretation of geotechnical parameters.

Support daily inspections of tunnel and rail alignment works, including excavation, shoring, dewatering, and slope stability.

Monitor contractor activities to ensure compliance with project specifications, drawings, and safety standards.

Coordinate with design consultants and contractors to resolve geotechnical issues in real time.

Review method statements and construction procedures related to geotechnical activities.

Interpret geotechnical instrumentation data (e.g., piezometers, inclinometers, settlement markers) and report anomalies.

Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly geotechnical progress and compliance reports.

Participate in technical meetings, risk assessments, and quality inspections.

Assist with documentation and verification of as-built geotechnical conditions.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, or a related field.

1-3 years of relevant experience in geotechnical engineering, preferably in infrastructure or tunnel projects.

Key Skills and Abilities

Knowledge of soil mechanics, foundation engineering, and ground behavior in urban construction environments.

Familiarity with tunnel construction techniques such as TBM, NATM, cut-and-cover, or mined tunnels is preferred.

Experience with geotechnical software is an advantage.

Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and technical specifications.

Strong communication, reporting, and problem-solving skills.

Benefits Arcadis offers benefits for full-time and part-time positions, including medical, dental, and vision, EAP, 401K, STD, LTD, AD&D, life insurance, paid parental leave, rewards & recognition program, wellbeing benefits, adoption assistance and tuition reimbursement. We offer nine paid holidays and 15 days PTO that accrue per year. The salary range for this position is $70,000 - $84,000. Actual salaries will vary and are based on several factors, such as experience, education, budget, internal equity, project and location.
