Overview
ENGINEER II at University of Missouri-Columbia (MU) – University of Missouri Research Reactor Facility (MURR). The position reports to the Manager of the Engineering group and will work with internal and external customers to provide innovative solutions for MU Research Reactor Facility projects. The MURR facility supports cancer research, medical isotope production, and related activities across multiple disciplines. Responsibilities
Perform detailed designs, with full documentation, of new prototype equipment and systems, and perform modifications and changes to the reactor, facility infrastructure, research, and service equipment. Maintain infrastructure of mechanical, electrical, HVAC, and other utility systems, including periodic facility/system inspections and developing procedures and plans for project implementation. Maintain familiarity with codes and requirements issued by the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC), National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and Building Officials and Code Administrators International (BOCA). Interface with internal and external customers and manage projects from conception through installation and commissioning. Write standard operating procedures for installed systems. Collaborate with Campus Facilities to complete maintenance projects on time while maintaining safety and regulatory compliance. Coordinate with external vendors and contractors as part of project teams. Additional Responsibilities
Collaborate with Project Managers for proper allocation and tracking of resources. Prepare procedures, reports, and other documentation including project updates and critical analyses. Test and document design prototypes before final construction and installation. Mentor and train new engineers to develop their skills. Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications A Bachelor’s degree and at least 2 years of experience (or equivalent knowledge and skills). Licensure may be required. Preferred Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent with a minimum of five years post-graduate experience. Knowledge of structural mechanics, fluid mechanics, machine design, and HVAC systems. Excellent analytical and computational skills; advanced problem-solving abilities. Creative and innovative thinking; commercial awareness including understanding of target user and market. Proficiency with CAD software (SolidWorks, AutoCAD, etc.). Professional Engineer license is a plus. Work Details
Shift: Monday - Friday, 8 AM – 5 PM, with occasional weekends and evenings. Must be available for reliable and consistent onsite work. Anticipated Hiring Range: Salary $90,000.00 – $100,000.00 per year. Grade: GGS-011. University Title: Engineer II. Benefits and Equal Opportunity
