Responsibilities / Essential Functions Functions as a member of the interdisciplinary team. Primary responsibility to care for patients with behavioral health needs. Utilize the nursing process to deliver comprehensive and developmentally appropriate care to high-risk behavioral patients and their families. Act as a psychiatric resource for the team by providing clinical support, monitoring compliance with system policies, guidelines, documentation, and maintaining a safe environment for patients with behavioral health needs. Respond to behavioral emergencies throughout the building and collaborate with the interdisciplinary team to ensure patient and staff safety. Ensure compliance with regulatory standards related to the care of hospitalized patients with behavioral health needs.
Conducts individualized age-specific patient/family assessments according to unit scope and nursing practice standards, CPGs/NDs, or protocols.
Admission/Initial Assessment:
Collects and documents data related to patient’s individualized care.
Assessments address age, development, education, family involvement, and care needs.
Identify nursing diagnoses, collaborative problems, and/or protocols at admission.
Shift Assessment/Reassessment: perform reassessment per unit standards and communicate changes to MD, Charge RN, and family as indicated.
Develops individualized patient/family plan of care with Behavioral Health Team using CPG/NDs and guidelines; plans include education and discharge needs.
Implements and evaluates nursing actions according to the plan of care and patient condition; coordinates with interdisciplinary team to achieve outcomes.
Documentation: ensure accurate assessment/evaluation, timely entries in the medical record, and up-to-date care plans and discharge instructions.
Clinical judgment for high-risk behaviors; maintain safe environment, provide staff education, and support de-escalation and safety protocols when needed.
Protect patient health information (PHI) and adhere to infection prevention initiatives.
Education Qualifications
Associate\'s Degree from an accredited school of nursing (Required) or
Bachelor\'s Degree from an accredited school of nursing (Required)
Experience Qualifications
2 years of psychiatric nursing experience (Preferred)
Experience with pediatric patients (Preferred)
Previous experience with EPIC (Preferred)
Skills And Abilities
Ability to perform a variety of duties under stress, prioritize effectively, and maintain composure.
Licenses and Certifications
RN - Registered Nurse licensure in Nebraska (Upon Hire, Required)
BLS - Basic Life Support (Upon Hire, Required)
PALS - Pediatric Advanced Life Support (Within 180 Days, Preferred)

Located on our main hospital campus, the center offers a crisis assessment center, behavioral health urgent care, 40 single-occupancy inpatient beds, a partial hospitalization program and outpatient services — all guided by an innovative, trauma-informed model of care.
