Schedule: Per Diem
Shift: Days – Must have availability to work every other weekend at a minimum. Additional weekday availability is highly preferred.

Responsibilities and Role The Retail Pharmacist, as the medication expert, provides the highest quality pharmaceutical care to the patients of Adventist Health System mail order pharmacy. The pharmacist reviews prescriptions for accuracy and takes appropriate steps for clarification or correction if necessary. Daily workflow is monitored to meet production goals and complete mail order prescriptions. Communication with patients and physicians is conducted as needed regarding drug interactions, medication identification, sensitivities, allergies, and all issues concerning safety and wellbeing of the patient. Oral and written communications require sensitivity, good judgment, and a caring attitude be displayed in every situation.
Key Contributions
Receives verbal prescriptions via Interactive Voice Response or telephone from physicians office and immediately reduces to writing.
Contacts prescriber for any clarifications or necessary recommendation prior to forwarding to appropriate staff member.
Transfers prescriptions either incoming or outgoing to appropriate retail pharmacies following state and federal laws.
Evaluates prescriptions in the pharmacy computer system for accuracy, drug utilization review (DUR), and patient history.
Checks both new and refill prescription orders for correct medication, labeling, and any errors initially missed.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree
1 year of work experience
Licensed Pharmacist (RPH)
Must complete required bi-annual continuing education requirements for licensure upon hire
Preferred Qualifications
Doctorate degree
Board of Pharmacy Specialty (BPS) certification upon hire
Pharmacist preceptor for schools of pharmacy upon hire
