Summary Conducts procedures and tests using Computerized Tomography (CT) equipment to acquire and analyze patient diagnostic data. Schedule for this role is Wednesday - Friday 6:00 pm to 6:30 am.
Responsibilities
Patient Identification: uses professional manners and methods, verifies patient identification, obtains patient history, assists patients and family members that require extra attention, ensures patient understanding whenever possible, and ensures patient safety. Verifies patient identification and documents pregnancy status on patients of child bearing age.
CT Scans: obtains images per protocols, manipulates images according to protocols, performs multi-planar and 3D reconstruction of image data, demonstrates knowledge of CT algorithms, and selects appropriate window and level settings according to anatomy.
Contrast: administers oral and IV contrast according to protocols, establishes intravenous lines, follows safe injection procedures, determines contrast eligibility, and checks relevant lab values before contrast injection per protocol.
Image Transfer: maintains understanding of PACS, transmits images to QC, UNCH’s EMR, EPIC and PACS, verifies and segments images, uses IMPAX service tools to verify image transmission, and manages orders and billing accuracy.
Other Duties: completes tasks timely, maintains workflow, assists with challenging tasks and new research, produces quality diagnostic images, reviews patient charts and reports for correlation, maintains a clean and orderly work environment, documents incidents as opportunities for improvement, and precepts new employees and students.
Education Requirements
Completion of an accredited educational program in Radiological Science or completion within 3 months at time of application.
Licensure/Certification Requirements
Must be registered with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists or registry eligible. For registry eligible candidates: must provide a copy of diploma from accredited program.
Successful candidates must become registered within two years of employment and maintain registry status and continuing education requirements annually.
All imaging specialists are required to maintain current competency in BLS (Basic Life Support).
Professional Experience Requirements
Prior education, training and experience that provides the ability to perform the assigned tasks.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities Relevant knowledge and skills related to CT imaging, patient care, PACS/EMR systems, and radiation safety.
