Job Description About West Chester Hospital West Chester Hospital provides its patients with access to the region’s largest group of specialized physicians and medical providers. Unit Details: Level III trauma center, shares providers with UC Medical Center Commitment to work-life balance and open leadership communication Team-oriented Emergency Department environment Location United States Qualifications Active Ohio EMT-P (Paramedic) Certification required BLS (American Heart Association) – required at time of hire ACLS (American Heart Association) – required before completion of department orientation PALS (American Heart Association) – required within 6 months of hire NRP (American Academy of Pediatrics) – required within 1 year of hire HazMat Training (Awareness and Operations) – required within 1 year of hire and annually thereafter CPI (Crisis Prevention Intervention) – preferred EKG Competency – passing score required upon hire and annually Minimum of 1 year of paramedic experience required Mandatory annual education for unit-specific, hospital-wide, and safety training De-escalation training (WCH) – required within 1 year of hire Triage training (WCH) – required within 1 year of hire Preferred: CPI training; HazMat Awareness/Operations preferred at time of hire Responsibilities Engage in population-appropriate communication and consider growth and development milestones in care planning Provide clear treatment instructions to patients and involve family/guardian in assessment and care Identify patient physical limitations and deploy appropriate interventions Recognize and respond to behavioral health needs; interpret data to tailor care for diverse cultural and religious contexts Perform treatments, administer medications, or operate equipment safely Identify and respond to signs of abuse or neglect Patient Care: under RN direction, perform delegated patient care (IV insertion, IOs, 12-lead EKGs, phlebotomy, vital signs, splinting, wound care, wound dressing preparation, etc.) Collect, report, and document observations and patient care Use monitors and equipment, assist physicians and nursing staff with procedures Assist with patient triage and HazMat decontamination as needed Apply de-escalation principles appropriately Respond promptly to patient call lights with attentiveness to unit identification Patient Safety: maintain a safe patient care environment; communicate pertinent information; exercise critical thinking; protect patient privacy and confidentiality; follow ENA standards; comply with hospital policies Emergency Department Environment: participate in hospital Emergency Operations Plan during disasters; communicate with departments; register patients quickly; maintain areas and equipment; transport patients; perform Point of Care testing and QA Professionalism: demonstrate initiative, professionalism, and teamwork; serve as a role model and support department efficiency; maintain competency; attend meetings and training; function as a preceptor Seniority level
