Location United States Qualifications Active Ohio EMT-P (Paramedic) Certification required BLS (American Heart Association) – required at time of hire ACLS (American Heart Association) – required before completion of department orientation PALS (American Heart Association) – required within 6 months of hire NRP (American Academy of Pediatrics) – required within 1 year of hire HazMat Training (Awareness and Operations) – required within 1 year of hire and annually thereafter CPI (Crisis Prevention Intervention) – preferred EKG Competency – passing score required upon hire and annually Experience: Minimum of 1 year of paramedic experience required Training & Education: Completion of mandatory annual education for unit-specific, hospital-wide, and safety training De-escalation training (WCH) – required within 1 year of hire Triage training (WCH) – required within 1 year of hire Preferred Qualifications: CPI training preferred; HazMat awareness and operations preferred at time of hire Responsibilities PATIENT POPULATION - (CLINICAL ONLY): Engage in population-appropriate communication; knowledge of growth and development milestones; give clear instructions to patients/family; involve family/guardian in assessment and care; identify physical limitations and deploy interventions; respond to behavioral health needs; interpret data and plan care accordingly; perform treatments and administer medications; recognize signs of abuse or neglect. Patient Care: Provide assistance for patient care needs; prioritize and multitask; under RN direction, perform delegated tasks (e.g., IV insertion, IO, 12-lead EKGs, phlebotomy, vital signs, wound care, dressing), collect and document observations; use monitoring equipment; assist procedures; perform other duties as assigned; participate in triage and HazMat decontamination; apply de-escalation skills; respond to patient call lights promptly and respectfully. Patient Safety: Ensure safe patient care environment; communicate pertinent information; demonstrate critical thinking; protect patient privacy and confidentiality; adhere to ENA standards and hospital policies. Emergency Department Environment: Participate in Emergency Operations Plan; communicate with departments; register patients quickly; assist with ordering, stocking, and cleaning; maintain specialty carts and transport patients; perform Point of Care quality assurance and tests; perform clerical duties as directed. Professionalism: Show initiative for professional growth; maintain professionalism; act as a role model; promote department efficiency and patient satisfaction; maintain ongoing competency; attend departmental and hospital meetings and training; function as a preceptor.
