Overview Department: Clinical Lab Schedule: Part-Time - Days, 6am-2:30pm, alternating weekends required Facility: Holy Family Medical Center Location: Des Plaines, IL
Responsibilities
Perform waived, moderate, or highly complex CLIA-authorized tests (493.1425, 493.1495, 493.1463).
Adhere to laboratory procedures for collection, processing, analysis, and reporting of patient test results.
Follow quality control policies, document corrective actions, identify problems, and notify supervisor or director.
Perform laboratory procedures with independent judgment using manual and automated methods across disciplines (Hematology, Blood Bank, Chemistry, Urinalysis, Coagulation, Microbiology, Immunology).
Document maintenance of instruments and equipment (daily, weekly, monthly, as needed).
Review accuracy of patient results prior to release or reporting.
Recognize age-specific differences in expected results for newborn to geriatrics.
Ensure proficiency testing samples are tested identically to patient samples and report results appropriately.
Perform venipuncture or capillary puncture on various age groups from newborn to geriatrics.
Assist in development and maintenance of laboratory policies and procedures.
Adhere to all department and hospital policies related to safety, infection control, emergency preparedness, and human resources.
May act as Lead Tech during shift when supervisor absent.
May be assigned responsibilities related to LIS and/or POC.
Other tasks may be assigned by the department manager or director.
Qualifications
ASCP certification or equivalent preferred.
Minimum two years of hospital laboratory work experience.
Bachelor’s Degree in chemical, physical, biological, health science, or Medical Laboratory Technology from an accredited institution, or other educational requirements stated in CLIA (42 CFR 493.1423).
