Overview
Department: Clinical Lab
Schedule: 3rd shift- 10:30pm-7am rotating holidays and weekends
Facility: St. Mary of Nazareth Hospital
Location: Chicago, IL 60622
Responsibilities
Perform waived, moderate, or highly complex tests authorized by CLIA per CFR 493.1425, 493.1495, 493.1463 and maintain skill level commensurate with education, training, experience.
Adhere to laboratory procedures for collection, processing, analysis, and reporting of patient test results.
Follow quality control policies and document corrective actions when test systems deviate from performance specifications.
Identify problems affecting test performance, correct the problem or notify supervisor, Director, or Medical Director.
Perform a wide variety of laboratory procedures requiring independent judgment using manual and automated methods in Hematology, Blood Bank, Chemistry, Urinalysis, Coagulation, Microbiology, Immunology, and any other discipline introduced into the laboratory.
Perform and document instrument and equipment maintenance daily, weekly, monthly, or as needed.
Review the accuracy of patient results prior to releasing or reporting.
Recognize age-specific differences in expected results for newborns to geriatrics.
Ensure proficiency testing samples are tested in the same manner as patient samples and documentation before reporting to agencies.
May be required to perform venipuncture or capillary puncture on various age groups from newborn to geriatrics.
Assist in the development and maintenance of laboratory policies and procedures.
Adhere to all department and hospital policies related to safety, infection control, emergency preparedness, and human resources.
In the absence of a supervisor, may act as Lead Tech responsible for the section or department during shift.
May be assigned responsibilities related to LIS and/or POC.
Other tasks may be assigned by the department manager/director.
Qualifications
ASCP certification, or equivalent preferred.
Minimum two years of hospital laboratory work experience required.
Bachelor’s Degree in chemical, physical, biological health science or Medical Laboratory Technology from an accredited institution, or other educational requirements stated in CLIA.
Current and valid State License if the laboratory is located in a state where required.
