Under the direction of the Nurse Manager or Director and in collaboration with others, the Clinical Care Supervisor may be responsible for the day-to-day unit operations, clinical care, and/or education processes for the unit/department. Duties may include staff supervision, patient flow, staff education, orientation and competency assessment, clinical care excellence, financial stewardship, performance improvement, coordination of patient care and safety, and serving in the Charge Nurse role. RESPONSIBILITIES
General: Supports strategies to achieve HCMC nursing vision and execute Patient and Family Centered Care for every patient, every experience, and every time. Provides leadership for developing and implementing the unit/department annual plan including monitoring scorecard indicators and updating the Visual Management Board (VBM). Supports hospital and unit compliance with standards of care and regulatory requirements. Demonstrates knowledge of hospital and unit policies and procedures and participates in revising as assigned. Promotes exceptional care and service through partnerships with patients, families, and the interdisciplinary team. Understands and implements provisions of labor contracts. Maintains unit environment that is clean, safe, and healing for patients. Leads and participates in unit and organization-wide committees as assigned. Performs delegated duties as required. On-call duties as assigned and/or on a rotating basis will be on off-shifts, weekends, and holidays. Facilitates the initiation of, adoption of, and adaptation to change. Education: Coordinates and tracks unit-based orientation, competency assessment, and staff development in collaboration with the Professional Practice, Development and Research Department (PPDR). Articulates standards of professional nursing practice to staff through orientation, ongoing staff development, and staff coaching. Acts as a mentor to new staff to assist in development of critical thinking skills, organization skills, and decision making. Leads the preceptor program within the department and ensures competencies are complete, evidence-based, and up to date. Serves as a preceptor as needed. Supports learning and professional development at HCMC through participation in central orientation and education activities. Assesses, plans, implements, and evaluates division-wide and unit-specific based orientation and education while incorporating adult learning principles. Maintains clinical competencies, documentation, and records of orientation and ongoing required education. Conducts educational needs assessment and develops a plan to meet the ongoing needs of the staff. Coordinates preceptor activities. Participates as a member or chair of organizational education and development initiatives, aimed at improving patient safety and excellence in nursing practice. Operational: Assists in managing unit operations to comply with financial targets. Supervises employees, including interviewing, hiring, evaluating, and performance management as directed by the manager. Functions as the Nurse Manager when the manager is not present. Monitors the quality and safety of patient care provided and addresses issues proactively. Clinical: Demonstrates leadership for monitoring and assuring safe, high-quality patient care. Provides leadership and takes an active role in infection prevention within the department and organization. Assists in coordinating patient care with other nursing services, health services, and community health care agencies in order to maximize patient flow. Serves as a resource for unit staff to resolve clinical care issues. Serves in the Charge Nurse role. Supports the integration of research and evidence-based practice in the delivery of nursing care services. About the company
