APPLICANT MUST HAVE THEIR PEER CERTIFICATION PRIOR TO BEING HIRED A Peer Recovery Specialist II provides peer recovery support to clients diagnosed with or identified as having a substance use disorder, mental health disorder, or co-occurring disorder. This position supports clients throughout their recovery process and encourages them to take empowering actions in order to regain control over their lives and recovery. A Certified Peer Recovery Specialist (CPRS) II promotes healthy behaviors among their clients by disseminating substance use, mental health recovery, and community resources including housing, employment, education, transportation, recreation, health, religious/spiritual, and other resources. Provides peer recovery support to clients diagnosed with or identified as having a substance use disorder, mental health disorder, or co-occurring disorder by conducting the following monthly: education, training, and support sessions to 5 or more previously incarcerated CPRS Labor program participants, one-on-one peer support sessions to 10 or more participants, and 2 or more group support sessions. Complete the following support groups: overdose education, NARCAN and Fentanyl test strip training. Build relationships with community providers and make referrals for substance use disorder screening, assessment, treatment and other re-entry support services to include housing, employment, education, transportation, recreation, health, religious/spiritual, and other resources. Travel within the county to provide services. Travel outside your county to connect with the RPS, the other CPRSs, and to connect to others supporting CPRS services. Work collaboratively with and refer participants to the Labor Re-entry Navigators at the local American Job Centers to find employment, housing, and other support services. Meets with clinical staff, their direct supervisor, their field supervisor in the parole and probation office, other parole and probation staff and other staff to collaborate and coordinate services provided. Prepares reports and documents for the services provided to the Division of Parole and Probation Agents. Complete all required reports and documentation to comply with the OOCC grant. Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications Education: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate. Experience: One year of experience providing peer recovery support services. Note: Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a non-commissioned officer in Peer Specialist classifications or Peer Specialist and specialty codes in the health-related field of work for the required experience. Licenses, Registrations and Certifications Candidates for positions in this classification must possess a current certification as a Peer Recovery Specialist within 12 months from date of hire from the Maryland Addictions Professional Certification Board (MAPCB). Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle and must possess a Maryland driver’s license. Special Requirements Employees in this classification who fail to obtain the required certification by the end of 24 months of continuous employment shall be subject to disciplinary action. Applicants must be in a state of recovery for 2 years from a substance use, mental health or co-occurring disorder before they can be qualified to be hired as a Peer Recovery Specialist, Certified. Employees must complete any additional training deemed necessary to maintain required certification. Employees are subject to substance abuse testing in accordance with Maryland regulations. Contractual employees may be eligible for subsidized health benefits if they work 30+ hours per week. You will pay 25% of premiums; the State subsidizes 75%.
