SUMMARY:
Provide transmission line design, engineering, technical support, and oversight to a transmission engineering and design team to deliver safe, cost-effective, and high-quality engineering and design services. Offer technical expertise and guidance on complex engineering issues for transmission line projects, including renewable energy interconnections and grid modernization. Lead discipline work, perform responsible charge engineering duties, and manage project schedules and budgets. Support proposal development and project cost estimating.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Under minimal supervision in power transmission and substations, provide:
Engineering and technical expertise in problem identification, analysis, and resolution.
Effective planning, organizing, estimating, scheduling, and monitoring of work activities.
Timely, thorough, and accurate technical reports, correspondence, documentation, calculations, and sketches.
Continuous improvement of engineering, technical, and professional skills and performance.
Effective oral and written communication skills.
Ability to understand and create transmission line drawing packages.
Support the company's goals and represent the company professionally.
Interact daily with customer’s internal engineers and technical personnel.
Develop and maintain professional relationships with clients.
Monitor project deliverables, schedules, and present solutions to clients.
Perform other duties as assigned by management.
COMPLEXITY OF WORK:
Complex; established procedures are not available. Major decision-making required.
RELATIONSHIPS OUTSIDE WORKGROUP:
Influences decisions of moderate nature requiring tact.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
None
QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering from an accredited college or university.
5-7 years of experience in electrical power delivery engineering.
Preferably a Professional Engineering (PE) license.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
Regular attendance.
Ability to read, interpret, and produce technical documents and correspondence.
Strong mathematical skills including calculations with fractions, percentages, ratios, and spreadsheets.
Ability to interpret technical instructions and solve practical problems.
Understanding of basic engineering principles, electrical concepts, and research practices.
Ability to work independently and communicate effectively with diverse individuals.
DESIRED SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:
BS in Civil, Structural, or Electrical Engineering.
Registered Professional Engineer with NCEES record.
Over 5 years of electrical utility transmission line design experience, especially at 69kV and above.
Technical competency in transmission line design, structure layout, foundation design, grounding, lightning protection, and cost estimation.
Knowledge of relevant standards (NESC, ASCE, ACI, IEEE).
Experience with PLS-CADD, PLS-POLE, MFAD, and project management tasks.
Ability to oversee junior staff, collaborate effectively, visit sites, and assist in project proposals and permitting activities.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Includes standing, walking, sitting, talking, handling tools, and occasional outdoor work under various weather conditions. Reasonable accommodations are available for disabilities.
While performing duties, noise levels are moderate, and safety precautions should be observed regarding electrical hazards and environmental conditions.
