Who We’re Looking For

Toyota’s Manufacturing Innovation & Transformation (MIT) – Advanced Technology Department is looking for a passionate and highly motivated Advanced Technology Engineer. The primary responsibility of this role is to develop and implement innovation activities improving manufacturing competitiveness. Reporting to the MIT Manager, the person in this role will support the Production Engineering Division and SOAR Group’s objective to improve manufacturing competitiveness, by leading automation projects.

What You’ll Be Doing

Identify and develop new technology solutions that contribute to better ways of meeting customer needs

Develop and implement plans to test technology solutions in a manufacturing setting while using all available tools and resources to meet current and forecast future customer needs

Develop Proof of Concept (PoC) testing plans to evaluate technology viability in lab and simulation environments

Design and lead experiments to 1) identify critical process parameters and 2) quantify the relationship between these process parameters and critical quality outputs

Use strong communication skills to share status updates openly and eliminate information silos by creating proposals, negotiating roles and responsibilities, and gaining approvals with stakeholders

Present reports and updates to stakeholders, management, and executives

Create standardized training documents and technical memos for new technology solutions

Lead and manage projects from concept to large-scale launch in production by creating schedules, establishing punch lists, and meeting established due dates and milestones

Develop equipment procurement scopes of work and ensure specification is met from planning to production usage

Follow Toyota’s policies and procedures to ensure equipment and process safety

Collaborate with NAMCs, Toyota Motor Corporation (TMC), Toyota Technical Center (TTC), Production Engineering (PE) support shops, Plano divisions, and Toyota strategic partners

Partner with team members to improve overall team’s capabilities

Provide technical guidance and mentorship to the team

Guide Team members to use Toyota Business Practice (TBP) thinking and analytical mindset

What You Bring

Bachelor’s degree (or above) in engineering/Engineering Technology or 7+ years of equivalent professional experience in new technology solutions

PE experience (TMNA/NAMC/Other) including manufacturing preparation and equipment deployment 2 years required

Proven experience in development of innovation projects in a manufacturing environment

Experience with project management including writing detailed scope of work, creating schedules, managing vendors/contractors, and providing regular status updates

Knowledge of and experience with computer aided design and manufacturing (CAD/CAM) engineering software techniques including Autodesk, AutoCAD

Proficiency with MS Excel

Willingness and ability to travel, domestically and internationally as required based on business need (~25%)

Willingness to work overtime as required

Added Bonus If You Have

Master’s degree in engineering or advanced degree

Academic research experience in new technology

Experience designing experiments, collecting and statistically analyzing data, and interpreting results to provide data-driven recommendations

Experience deploying AI solutions in an automotive production environment

Experience deploying equipment including establishing Ryohin Joken (RJ), Failure Mode Equipment Analysis (FMEA), and quality control plan

Experience deploying automotive production equipment

OSHA 10 Certification

Professional Engineering License
