Overview
Zing Recruiting is partnering with the Fairfax County government to find a licensed Electrical Engineer (Engineer IV) to lead the design, review, and execution of complex capital and non-capital projects across county-owned facilities. This role is ideal for a PE-certified engineer with extensive experience in commercial power distribution, life safety systems, and energy-efficient infrastructure.

$87,024.91 – $145,041.94 annually
Key Responsibilities
Manage large-scale electrical engineering projects in occupied commercial buildings.
Design, review, and oversee installation of electrical, generator, life safety, solar PV, and EV systems.
Serve as a subject matter expert across multiple departments.
Ensure compliance with building codes, safety standards, and budget constraints.
Sign and seal engineering work as a licensed Professional Engineer.
Collaborate with contractors, engineers, and internal stakeholders to deliver high-impact infrastructure solutions.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (ABET-accredited).
4+ years of progressively responsible professional experience.
Valid Virginia PE License (or eligible for reciprocity within 6 months).
Valid driver’s license.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience managing electrical systems in occupied buildings over 100,000 sq. ft.
Strong background in:
Commercial power distribution and energy management
Mission-critical backup systems
Photovoltaic (PV) solar systems
Contract and project management
Proven ability to lead projects valued at $500,000 or more.
Experience developing capital improvement programs.
Skills & Attributes
Detail-oriented with strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Excellent communication skills (verbal and written).
Ability to manage multiple complex projects simultaneously.
Comfortable working in both office and field environments.
Physical Requirements
Ability to climb ladders, access tight spaces, and lift/push up to 25 lbs.
Must be mobile and able to access active construction sites.
Comfortable working in extreme temperatures and confined spaces.
Selection Process
Panel interview and practical exercise may be administered.
Background and driving record checks required.
